Everything went as smooth as possible... And if you are passing thru NJ give me a shout I am about 10 minutes off the TPK ... drop in and give 'em a listen... But you can't have 'em back and thanks for taking good care of them. Someday I will pass them on to someone who will also appreciate them as much as we do.

Now I have a few nice pairs of large bookshelf speakers and they do sound very sweet... But nothing beats a BIG pair of speakers!

I tried 50 watts from a Yaqin Int amp and it sounded really sweet on my 2.3TL's.

Today's fiddlin around:

I changed the pre's to the Parasound 2100 and like the fact that now I have a remote. I think the 2100 is a nice little pre and seems to match up with the M80 nicely.Very huge full sound (as you would expect from 300 lbs of speaker).

Congrats on your SRS's. This thread caught my attention and made me register so that I could ask a question.

I noticed that you have the LSiM703's which I've been considering. I have a set of SRS2's that amaze me every time I listen to them but I've been thinking about going the modern audiophile bookshelf route (WAF).

How does the modern TOTL LSiM series compare to your SRS's. I realize they won't go as low and not have such an incredible soundstage but what about mids, clarity, depth, detail in the music, etc.

Your insights and comparisons would be appreciated since you actually have them both there at the same time.

The LSIM 703's that I have that have crossover mods by VR3 (hang around here long enough and you can read some of his accolades) are the nicest bookies I have ever heard. They sounded nice before the mod, but since they are much more precise and detailed. If a pair of bookies is in your future, certainly give the 703's a listen. The 703's with a VR3 xover mod and a small sub can hang with the SDA's but do lack the massive soundstage that the SDA's produce.

I haven't listened to the 703's with big amp, but with tubes they are incredibly smooth and detailed.

My best advice would be to see if you could somehow demo a pair to compare... I haven't heard a bad review of the 703's and would say they are the finest bookshelf speakers that Polk has yet produced.

If you could only keep one and size & appearance was not an issue, would it be the VR3 modded 703's (w/sub) or the stock SRS's?

So I haven't had enough time to give you the best answer... But I got the sda's to fill out my retro 80's rig, and am inclined to think that once I get the mods done (tweets, xovers and mechanicals) that I will keep the sda's..:)

The stock sda's have a very pure 80's retro sound that I like...

I might sell the 703's then...

On the other hand if space or WAF was an issue the 703's can really keep you happy.

You hear so much that older speakers can't touch newer speakers but I've had a hard time finding a modern floorstander for less than $5K that can give me the whole package that the SRS's do. Recently I started thinking that when the time comes I'll go for large bookshelf speakers instead and maybe add a sub. Those 703's look beautiful and got a class B rating from Stereophile along with some good company. They seem like an incredible value, which I like.

Many of us bought our LSIM's last summer when Polk had a friends and family sale that was basically half price with free ship.. So that made them a GREAT value.

Many audio snobs turn their nose up at Polk gear, but there are few manufacturers out there that offer the quality/value that you can get from Polk, and their customer service is outstanding. For example... I wanted to get upgraded tweets for the sda's and they still stock replacement parts for 30 year old products... dunno if you can get that from all manufacturers these days..
