    Hey guys!
yes Dan, as Jesse said, I picked up the speakers and got them transported home without issue!

I ended up making a trip of it this past weekend up and back in a day, and got them packed up and transported with no problems. Aside from some intermittent crazy Northern VA traffic, it was actually a really nice trip - couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day for the drive, and I enjoyed meeting up with jtgranby, and hanging out a little and talking gear, and having him demo the set for me. Dark Side of the Moon - I swear I was hearing the helicoptery sounds outside and around back of Jim's house! I've just never experienced audio like that before, and he said he wished he had a camera handy at that point so I could see the look on my face. Jim's also got a super friendly big dog, and he molested me pretty good a few times, but I like dogs, and it was still better than prison.

The 2.3TL's actually fit in the back of a Subaru Impreza with the seats down, if you can believe it. It was a tight fit, for sure, but I'd measured several times earlier in the week, and so didn't make the trip blindly hoping for the best or anything. we laid out some anti-fatigue foam floor mats in the cargo area and up the sides a little. we wrapped the speakers shipping blankets, all stuff I picked up at Harbor Freight pretty affordably. one speaker was on its back, the other on its side, drivers out, and then I lashed them together with more foam in between the speakers to prevent banging. put a little up at the front, sides and back of the cargo area, and put foam under the straps in some areas, too, to prevent lashing damage. I took a few bad photos to show just how tight a squeeze it was, and have been meaning to post back, but haven't gotten around to it.

The ride back was relatively smooth and uneventful. I wasn't aware of any shifting or jolts, and just took my time and enjoyed a more scenic route back down.

I got the speakers tested out a little earlier this week, but didn't have them into position until last night, and was up late listening to a bunch of different stuff. all I can say is that I literally just can't get over how good these speakers sound, even when they weren't properly set up. fantastic output, and they're just so clear, smooth and comfortable, even at volume. and they sound full even at lower listening levels. the bass response really surprised me too. I simply wasn't expecting them to produce bass that I could feel, but some pieces really rattle my walls even at modest volume. my closest prior experience to this design was in a pair of Monitor 10's. I really had no idea the 2.3tl's were going to sound as good as they do.

I am very pleased with this acquisition, and tremendously grateful to Jim for the opportunity! funny tangent: I noticed some oddly placed traffic camera looking things in a section of the main road to Jim's house. just on the road, no intersections nearby... It didn't dawn on me until I got home what they were for, then it occurred to me that I might have a few pieces of city/state mail on the way to me later this month... possibly for SPEEDING TICKETS! haha

thanks to all who contributed and weighed in with suggestions and experience! much appreciated!

and Jim, thanks again. I'll keep true to our parting agreement - should I ever decide they're not for me, you'll have first dibs in reacquisition :)

I can answer for Scott as I believe he's enjoying his new SDA's too much to post right now. Yes, they made it without issue.

That was a pretty funny sight to see you guys drive off with that poor Explorer loaded to the gills....and your poor friend! That couldn't have been a comfortable ride home. :)

I drove all my speakers home in my 92 Ford explorer. All I did for protection was to wrap them in moving pads ans set them on their backs.
The 3.1's and 2.3s were easy. They fit with no trouble at all.
But the SRT system filled the entire inside of the explorer. The friend I went with had to have the control unit (in it's box) in his lap all the way from San Diego back up to Los Angeles. And both his passenger seat and my drivers seat were as far forward as humanly possible. I could barely breath, let alone steer.
Everything from each move arrived in perfect condition.

If you don't get the traffic tickets, then you have an immediate excuse to go buy RDO tweeters and mod the XO's with the $$ saved. :)

BTW, you won't want to get rid of the speakers after the upgrades.

    Hi Doug!

Yep, we were really jammed in there. Plus, I was worried about the stuck brake caliper going bad during the drive home. Didn't though. One thing we didn't have to worry about was the load shifting. Our biggest worry was getting to a particular Mexican restaurant before they closed (we made it).

One thing I really would like to get is a car horn that sounds just like your lawnmower. I'm still impressed by "it".

    Scott

It was great meeting you and sorry about the dog. My 2b's don't even come close to the 2.3TL's. In fact I am going to hook up a sub tonight to see if I can get some more
low end. Just give me the word and I can make it to Va. Beach to pick them up in a flash. Maybe after 4 years and my son finishes college. Enjoy.

Jim, you have to TL the 2B's, install Larry's rings and spike'em. I think you'd be surprised at the bass after that.

yes, I can't really put into words how much I'm enjoying these speakers so far. I really struggled with getting a system together in the beginning, and just couldn't really find anything satisfactory. it was terribly frustrating and a bit overwhelming. I slowly got closer to satisfaction, but these 2.3tl's are the best speakers I've heard to date. my experience is limited, but somehow I don't think that discredits these speakers any. I was coming from LSiM703's with HSU sub to the 2.3tl's. I still can't really get over the SQ and overall clarity and output. all I can say is that I'm finding myself just sitting around the evenings listening to all kinds of stuff, until the next thing I know, it's dark, and I'm like, crap! I gotta get to bed!

haha, I'd totally go for it, but Jim's already done the RDO tweeters!
I'm hoping I won't be seeing any tickets since I haven't seen them by now.
Definitely curious to upgrade the crossovers, but will prob hold off until things slow down in the cooler months, get all the research together, and maybe mess around first with a pair of Monitor 10's?

Jim, yes, really enjoyed that little trip up, overall. I enjoyed the leisurely drive home once I got out of the traffic and onto the back roads. no sweat about your dog, seriously, I enjoy rough-housing with dogs, getting on their level, you know, so I wasn't bothered in the least, but wow, what a beast! seems like a kind soul though. gonna have to get some of those "crack" bones. those things worked like magic!
man, feeling a little bad that you're missing the 2.3tl's and feeling underwhelmed with the 2B's.

I hope you can get some relatively satisfactory response out of them per Jesse's notes above?
How did the sub addition go?

I'll definitely let you know if I come to the point of feeling ready to move the 2.3tl's.

Go take a good look at gimpod.com (schematics tab). It's got the "how-to" on doing the 2BTL mod (marked 4.1TL), especially with the use of the gimpod boards. I did so with my B/B 2Bs to great effect.
