How Many SRTs Were Produced?

I've heard different answers to this question. Some say only 250 were made and others say 500 and then others say 1,000.

I've also heard that 500 were made for USA and another 500 were made to export.

Does anyone really know how many of these awesome systems were produced? It seems like there must have been more than 250.

I've read on here 250 for domestic & 250 international. I may be wrong, but that's what's floating around the forum.
Anyone else please chime in to clarify this long & mysterious debate! I'm confused as well as the op... Gatecrasher!

    Hello,
I did some checking with the sales department a number of years ago and the number we came up with was 850 systems produced, with probably 800 of them placed on the market for sale. That was inclusive of the original and second generation units.

I believe some were given to the marketing folks for demo purposes, some sent out for reviewers, some sent to service for warranty use and there's always a "golden standard" that engineering keeps.
Each SRT system was assembled by individual teams, a group of people, four I think, would take the product from individual pieces to finished product rather than building on an assembly line arrangement.

Thats cool info Ken, thank you very much for sharing. Its one system I would love to hear setup right. I'd love to own a set, but at this point given how large the lossless audio front is, I wonder how well they perform since IIRC they can only handle 5.1. Not to mention the MASSIVE amplification they scream for ...

When I bought my SRT system from a gentleman in New Jersey, he told me the system was originally owned by the VP of Polk and
the subs had been modified by Polk. If that is correct, I would assume the set I own was never for sale by the public.

Cause I'm dumb and struggling to figure out how the controller interfaces with the AVR.... I am guessing I'm just super dumb and you use the pre-outs which makes the lossless audio part moot lol....

They're modular. They can handle as many channels as you want. The only limiting factor is how many pairs you have available.

I just bought an SRT for a steal! I'm waiting for it to get here! Front mains & center, no surrounds. A little dusty but that can easily be cleaned up. Also, I need to find a control box for them as well as a remote! If anyone has an extra that's not in use, Please let me know! Otherwise I don't know what I'll do with them...
Oh & Gatecrasher, thanks again for that 2nd RT5000! It will be put to good use.

Good luck finding a controller. They're extremely rare to find these days. You can use the RT or LS series as surrounds for the SRT.

I don't understand why many of you still looking for the SRT. I had the SRT system and sold it after bought the LSIM. LSIM speakers have all the new tech. (1) for HT, LSIM sounds as good, if not better. SRT may play louder if you have crazy power and don't care about your ears. (2) LSIM looks way better with today decor and flat TVs. (3) for Music, LSIM is a few levels above the SRT. The new tweeter is miles ahead of the SL6500. (4) the only sure thing about the SRT is that it has way more bass; 4 10" can do serious damage to your house :)

For the same money (it was an even trade for me), please try LSIM setup first before you hunt for the SRT. You can always return the LSIM within 30 days, but it's extremely hard to sell the SRT.

Nice set up you have! But some of us still enjoy Polk's SRT! The ring radiator may be "light years" ahead, but the SRT still rules. I'll upgrade to the "newer stuff" soon, but for now I'm having fun with the RT's & my soon to arrive SRT's.
On the flip side of the coin, everyone that's posted here is a Polk addict! So this is not some shootout as to who has the latest or best! It's just about being loyal to a great brand! And having fun with what they have, being new or vintage.. everyone has their own taste.
Anyways, no harm done, we all have chosen a set of speakers that suits us.
I still look forward to hearing the LSIM, those are my next purchase!
    FT.

    Hello,
The differences dealt with the surround channels. In the first version, when Dolby pro-logic was the surround system most used, the SRT came with fairly standard non-directional speakers for the surround positions. When Dolby digital was introduced the system was changed to having much more advanced surround speakers with SDA technology. The system came with two controllers and had an increase in retail price. The SDA surround channels were placed on the rear walls as opposed to the two side walls.
    Cheers, Ken

There is no better home theater surround system that can best the SRT. SRT like any of its SDA siblings has to be properly set up with the right equipment and proper amplification. Once done, nothing will best them.
