Looking to buy high quality speaker cables. Do you have what I need?

After purchasing Face's Mapletree Line 2A (thanks for the suggestion, bobsauto49) I have begin upgrading all my cabling. l This thing has taken my 2 channel listening to a level which I never thought possible. The only thing left is to get a good high quality speaker cable (6-8 feet), of which I would need two pair. I would prefer one side to have spade plugs and the other side to have locking banana plugs. I know I can just order some on Amazon but would rather give my money to someone here on the forum. Would like to keep the cost to around a Benny. I would consider custom built cables. Used cables should show no sign of wear. Thanks!

Can't help you, but I am curious why one side needs spades, and the other bananas. I doubt if many people have a pair like that, but some vendors do offer the ability to adapt the end to whatever you need.

My Martin Logans cannot accept spades, just Banana plugs, pins, or bare wire. The spades will connect to the amp so I can get it closer to the wall.

Man I have the exact same speakers and just got some MIT Avt 2's and they sound awesome with the ESL's. I started a thread a while back and had lots of good info and opinions on cables. For your price range if you don't find anything used check out Signal Cables, that's what i'd get for the $.

High quality to me is not necessarily high quality to you. I just went on the Blue Jean site and put together two pair of 500UP cables with 25 degree spades on one side and locking bananas on the other side. All for $143. And they're going to be ultrasonically welded.

A hundred bucks is a lot of money for a couple of strips of wire. Having said that, I've done it. I bought a pair of Signal Cable Ultra speaker cables for just over a hundred. They look nice and Frank will terminate them to your specifications. He even gives a Club Polk discount of 5%. Highest recommendations if you're in the market for designer cabling that's built to last.

So, have you always been rich? Have you listened to the cheaper options? What do us "financially embarrassed" folks do? Give up all hope of thinking that we can get a system together that allows us to enjoy the music?

    Oh geez...

No, I certainly wasn't belittling anyone and spending more than 100 bucks doesn't determine one must be rich. Simply put, given the OP's gear list, I believe he could benefit from better cables. However, what the man decides on his up to him, no skin off my nose. As long as he likes what he hears, who gives a rats arse.

Sorry, five posts and I'm taking a pop at the regulars on here. One glass of Chateau de Plonque too many. The reason I snapped is that I am currently trying to get the readies together to redo some Monitor 10s I got quite a few months back and forgot to budget for cables, so $100 sounds like a lot at the moment when tacked on to the rest of the expense. Thinking of something DIY. Will ask for some opinions in the DIY forum. BTW, good to see that they spell arse correctly in Chicago (I'm English)

Wine in a box is your answer. Think of all the money you'll save and can apply towards a cable purchase.

Canare 4s11 gets high praises around here for getting your feet wet in DIY speaker cables. My first (non-clearcoat) cable purchase was a used set of Belkin Pure AV cables. I spent little money but was able to hear a difference, before deciding on spending more money on even better cables.

edit: Also, Doug from Douglas Connection (mentioned above) sells DIY cables by the foot and gives a discount to Polk forum members.

So I have been searching all over here for info on DIY cables, and manage to miss the reference to the Douglas Connection site in a thread I reply to. Just had a quick look, and looks really interesting - broad price range and all the required parts in one place.

Doug sells Canare 4S11, but I'm using his Furez wire. I had complained about how bad my speakers sounded at a low volume because a lot of times I just like to chill listening to music at a low to moderate level. The one thing that really stood out about the Furez 12AWG/4 Conductor wire is how much better the music sounded at the lower volume levels that I listen to. I would always slowly raise the volume knob until it sounded good and then look at what number the volume knob was on after. And with the Furez, I saw that I wasn't having to raise the volume as high. It also seemed to bring out more detail in the music. I should mention I have very little experience in trying out different types of cables, so I'm only speaking from my own experience, but I'm very pleased with my choice and it was at a price point I didn't feel comfortable exceeding.

It's all good, no harm no foul.

BTW- we do a lot of things in Chicago....mostly wrong, spelling being one of those. We also tend to run words together, like "whatsamatteru" and "forgetaboutit".

Given you have Musical Fidelity gear, I would make the same comment to you. Your gear deserves better...bluntly put. Kinda like putting fiberglass tires on a Mercedes....no ?

I'm somewhat of an old **** myself and no stranger to being on a budget, bang for your buck, and all around cheap arse. Speaker cables are a matter of personal preference, the Canare mentioned earlier is about the best sound quality per buck you'll find. If you buy used, you can expand your options. Good luck on the Polks and enjoy your tunes.
