Look what just followed me home.
Wow! These look to be in mint condition. If I'm reading the serial numbers right, they were manufactured in spring 2000.
I don't have them set up correctly (not up against corners) but even an initial demo using my little Lepai 2020 was great.
First, these things are amazingly efficient. I had the Lepai (maybe 7 watts a channel) cranked to 8 O'clock (starting from 6) on the dial and these were quite loud, even without corners to buttress the sound.
And they're clear. My acoustics weren't dialled in and I was losing a bit of the bass and horns but the immediacy and clarity of the upper ranges was very notable.
Very very cool!

You know false corners can be built for these speakers!
Once you get them dialed in and connected to a good tube amp, there's nothing like them.
These have settled on my Khorns after buying several dozen amps since 1985

I'm listening to these tonight and the more I do, the better I like them. The response is immediate. What amazing reflexes these speakers have!
I can definitely tell that my placement is hampering some frequency response but even then the bass is deep and vocals especially are entrancing - listening to some Elton John and Lorde and both are super!
Too bad that I won't be able to keep them - despite my very patient wife, there literally is no place in my house that will accommodate them - no corners that work anywhere and no rooms that will take them anywhere else, unfortunately.
I'll play with them where they are in the middle of my living room for a while but then they will have to move on. So if anyone knows of anybody in the DC area would like to give them a good home let me know - I'm going to advertise them on CL too.
Maybe when I buy my next (bigger) house Karma will repay me with another pair!
