The Craftsman from yesteryear is no longer. All they do is rebadge and OEM other manufacturers. I had a **** of a time getting parts for a Craftsman riding mower last year as they change manufacturers every couple years.

What I have been doing is shopping the big box stores and then google the local authorized repair dealer in the area and buy direct from them. They register the unit for you and know the complete history providing better service and recommendations. Has saved me a lot of headache with warranty and repairs on my heavy equipment plus helps keep the little guy in business.

I have a Craftsman that I bought when I returned to Maryland. It used to take me 2 1/2 hours to push mow my 1/3 acre so the first thing I did upon returning was buy a tractor. It's certainly not the BEST tractor, but it was only around 900and I've had it for 11 years with no issues.

Exactly...who needs "the best" tractor or a zero turn just to cut their yard? Just about any reasonably well built riding mower will cut a 1-2 acre yard every week for 10+ years with typical maintenance of oil changes, lube, belts and blade replacement.

I just can't imagine how it could take 6 hours unless you have a 20" "manual push" mower.
As you know the best time to buy what ever it is, is in late September.

bought mine used before we moved up here -- from our pastor :-) Seemed like a reasonable risk...

Not exactly "pro-quality" but fit for purpose, with a 46" cutting deck. Makes cuttin' the weeds at the new place a pretty enjoyable task (well, at least so far!)...

Not including the custom paint, whitewalls, and red wheels, that looks an awful lot like my late 90's Craftsman EZ3. Mine has a hydro and a double bagger on the back though. I'd rather have the non-hydro trans though. I suspect the trans is going to be what puts my tractor to the grave eventually.

I bought a 42" Deere at a Deere dealer 6 years ago. No plastic idler pulleys, no parts have worn out. Cuts an acre in an hour....easy peasy, I love it.

Do you have an ATV? If so, a swisher finish cut tow behind would be good.
