do you ever have the feeling that a piece of your stereo system is like one of your kids when there's something wrong with it?
well I had started to get a buzz/crackle from one of my tube mono blocks, most times after it had been on for a while. the last time this happened it was a power tube going out, but this time I was ready as I had two replacement tubes on hand. I could go a couple of ways to try and find the bad tube, replace one tube at a time (4 total) or two at a time until I found the guilty tube.
I decided to do one at a time and still have one replacement tube left. this required replacing one tube at a time letting the amp warm up to see if the buzz returns and then letting it cool back down after each change.
well, replaced the first tube and play some music to warm the amp up, got it on the first tube (I thought), go get a beer, come back and there's the buzz. turn the amp off to cool, put the old tube back in and move on to the next tube. this goes on until I get to the final tube and the buzz still keeps coming back. at this point I begin to worry and wonder how much this is going to cost.
then I thought maybe a signal tube and remembered I changed the driver tubes not too long ago so I started with them and there's been not a hint of a buzz since.
MY BABY IS ALRIGHT, I DON'T HAVE TO TAKE HER TO THE SURGEON AND BEST OF ALL NO MONEY OUT MY POCKET.
TUBES ARE SO MUCH FUN!

As long as you haven't named the two monoblocks after a niece or great aunt, all is well."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson
