Sitting here tonight after having spent another 2 hours on the phone with them trying to get my Internet and tv working after a week being without it. They sent out two boxes that don't work, and now I need to wait until Thursday for a tech to come out! To add insult to injury, I am being charged 95 buck if the failure is inside the house wiring, and they are the ones that ran the wires to start with!

I would go back to DirectTV but The **** bought them too! I feel like PFB about now.

I fought ATT last month over bad connections on their side of the service (U-verse Internet) and for 2 weeks this month have fought Suddenlink for TV. Our situation is a case of 1970s connections both telephone and cable trying to stand up to the bandwidth needed for digital and HD signals. Until they truly upgrade on their end, we are stuck. At least with analog signals we could put up with a little snow, when connections got iffy. Today, it comes and goes as it pleases, pixelating with the wind......with no answer in sight.

I am waiting for Verizon to "wire" my neighborhood for FIOS. I think I will be waiting until I am dead.

A good friend of mine was finally able to get her house hooked up to FIOS. She is getting phone, internet (50 down and 5 up) and every "cable" channel I can think of. $79.95 a month for the first two years, $91.95 for year three and four. So far she is into year two and has never had a minute of down time. And a four channel DVR too.

That's not a done deal yet. Same with the Comcast/Time Warner deal. I will not say anymore given that I'm an "insider".

I've been happy with DirecTV for 4 years, but this AT&T deal has me concerned. I have Comcast for Broadband. I switched to DirecTV because Comcast routinely compresses their HI-Def content. I'm in a small town, so I'm not holding my breath waiting for Verizon's FIOS. These Mergers are not going to be good for consumers.

Well worth the wait! I went through all the others until Verizon finally came in and install the Fios system. Having had all the others (TimeWaner, Direct, Comcast) I would say Direct has the best HD picture. I went with Fios to have all of my home entertainment/phone and Internet under one bill and service. The Internet is top notch 50/25, I have had to send back 2 boxes after getting replacement first. If I didn't have such a good plan with At&t for cell service I would consider switching over to Verizon.

Dumped UVerse as well. Couldn't get it to work right at the new house. Have DirectTV now. So far so good.

Yeah, I thought so too. The difference here is that I had no hand in creating the mess.

I resisted the savingings of switching from DirecTV to Uverse for TV....even though it was substantial. I hope DirecTV service doesnt go down the tubes because of the acquisition. I have been a loyal customer for years.
I would balk at paying the 95.00....no way.

Always good to have a backup, although I don't really care for reading and/or posting with my iPhone.

Well I have been with DTV for about 6 years, and although I do feel that the price is a bit much, the service has been very good. The genie is a great DVR, and the only time that I lose service is during tornado like conditions.

But yes, here is where is think it is very clear that a completely free market will not result in the best market conditions. Without some regulation we end up with 2-3 companies, no real competition, and the 99% get screwed.

To avoid any charges I went out to the telephone box coming in the house and hooked up my Uverse modem at that point the red light was still blinking so I knew that it was there dime. I had three people out till one guy knew his job and sent out an order to replace the switch at the main panel up the road about a 1/4 mile. What was happening was the old switch would like get hot and stop working. I don't have cell phone or land line so the biggest hassle was getting tech support when the internet was down. I get 18 down for $30 a month.
