Denon DVD-5900 Anyone?? Anyone??

Hi Gang,

Well I'm still on the fence with purchasing a universal DVD player. I was into the Marantz DV8400 for awhile. It has great sound, but I've been hearing over and over again that the video section is not great, it has the chroma bug, etc. I almost bought the Denon DVD-2900 but heard that although the video section is outstanding, the audio section is dry. For me a better audio section for DVD-A and SACD's is the most important purchase factor. But I sure don't want the chroma bug!!

This has brought me to the Denon DVD-5900. I've heard it really has the best of both worlds, is an improvement over the DVD-2900 sonically. Does anybody have any experience with the 5900??

Thanks,

DebussyJ

I don't have one nor have I seen/heard one in action ... yet ... but at the moment this seems to be the best choice at the price point from the reading I've done.

I have the 2900 and can tell you there is NOTHING dry about the audio. The damn thing sounds outstanding to me! and the vidio is amazing as well.

I read one owner in Australia who owned both and felt the 5900 was an improvement audio-wise.

    Couldn't say, personally; haven't heard the 5900.

Agree with Henry, the 2900 has excellent sound and many happy owners concur.

Big plus on the 5900 is DVI, which (if your TV accepts it) apparently blows away even component video in PQ.

Generally speaking, from what I've seen on my equipment, I wasn't blown away by DVI.

    Here's my opinion:
Strictly from a PQ standpoint, if the settings are the same on both your Hitachi inputs, cables shielded, etc., a component cable can produce the exact same 1080i picture as the 1080i picture from the DVI path.

Unfortunately I have not seen it.The 5900 I'm waiting to get a job with one on it.It's juicy by the spec's.

Right now I feel the Pioneer Elite dv47ai is top dog.The Pioneer Elite dv59avi is out and from what I have read about it,it's the mother effer.can you say HDMI???Also supports DVI with an adapter.
DVI has alot of compatabilty problems.I have seen it fail many times.

My opnion Pioneer Elites players sound quality and even video quality wise are the best on the market at there price point.

The Denons are really nice as well but I don't think they sound as good. There video is hit or miss depending on the display.
I like the 2900,it's built really good but I have seen it fail along with other Denon dvd players in the past.

I've asked alot of people about the PQ improvments with DVIs. They all say that DVI wont even make a noticeble difference on PQ on a integrated HD display, ie: a CRT RPTV. To really see a difference you need a true digital display like a plasma, LCD or a DLP.
