Does anyone know a repair shop in the Washington, DC area that will diagnose model LSi9 speakers? We have contacted our local Best Buy and they will not take the speakers for diagnosis or service because they don't sell that model. We think that we can repair them once the problem is diagnosed. Thanks.

What seems to be the issue with the speakers?

Being in this area most of my life, I can't think of anywhere of the top of my head. With that being said, in addition to what F1 asked..there isn't much that cannot be answered here on the site. A wealth of knowledge here and most likely we can help.

    Welcome to the club!

I'll take an educated stab. No highs, which means you've cooked the 5 watt resistor.

Sorry for delay in responding. The issue is that our speakers are putting out a lot of fuzz/static right now. One of our kids accidentally turned the volume all the way up and our concern is that something inside the speakers is fried, but we can't see what.

We called Polk initially but they weren't able to help us locate any place in the DC area.

    Thanks so much.

Look for visible signs as pictured and asked by F1

Is it definitely both speakers? Have you ruled out the receiver by trying any other speakers?

Thanks for the tips. I opened up one of the speakers. (To answer txcoastal1's questions, yes it's both speakers and it is definitely the speakers because we are using some loaners from our in-laws right now with the same receiver and everything is fine.) I didn't see any black marks or cracks on the resistors, and no other signs on that board of anything being obviously wrong (not that I have any idea what else to look for, but nothing that jumped out at me).

Assume no one has other thoughts but if so would be grateful. At any rate, thanks for all the help.

If it is not the resistors, you've cooked the tweeters. Call Polk to order new ones.

Plus if he's just driving these with a run of the mill receiver, that's another issue that new tweets won't cure.
