Need Recommendation for Blue Ray Set

The boys and I have made it through both the LOTR and Star Wars box sets several times. We also stream via Netflix, but at times I prefer Blue Rays due there are no streaming issues with a ISP (ie. no HD pic due to internet speed).
Any recommendations for family fun - preferably box sets for either movies or TV. They love stuff live Dr. Who or the old Star Trek...thanks

Band Of Brothers.

How old are the boys?
Band of Brothers might scare the Sugar Honey Ice Tea out of them. -
Elementary to Middle school...I joked with the wife about the Aliens box set and she wasn't amused....
-
Harry Potter Box Set - The latter ones are a bit darker than the early ones.
E.T. (Single movie as opposed to a set)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Single movie as opposed to a set)
A good website that I use is http://www.commonsensemedia.org/
It provides good insight for movies. -
My kids enjoy the Mythbusters shows as well.
-
Firefly....

Thanks...I just bookmarked that site. We have a Harry Potter set but it was a non-Blue Ray set given as a gift - when I keep telling people to only buy them Blu Rays - oh well. The current SD set looks pretty bad IMO - scenes are too dark and have a greenish tint to them. I always wondered in the camera used a filter on those movies due they have all have a distinctive look to the pq.
The blue ray set is a possibility though.... -

Sci-Fi type of series? -
Yup.
It took me an episode or two to get into it, but then I 'got it' - why everyone loves that series.

Another series that is a bit long in the tooth for effects, but still one of the best sci-fi series, imo, is Babylon 5.
Strong story line and some great episodes because of the long arcing character & plot developments that can chill your bones or bring a tear to your eye.

The revamped Dr. Who series from 2005 on is exceptionally well done. A series I fell in love with after the first episode is "Chuck".

The Sergio Leone Anthology because it's never too early to start teaching your kids gun violence. I'm kidding!
What about Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures? Or at least the first three. -

Star Trek TNG Bluray's are up to Season 6 now, completely remastered from original film. Should be a box set in a year and some change, but will probably be pretty expensive.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Though not really action/adventure, something I'd recommend for the whole family is the old tv series "Little House On The Prairie". Season 1 just came out on blu-ray to rave reviews for picture/sound quality. I picked this up for my daughter's birthday last month, her, son-in-law and their 2 kids (10 and 7) are really enjoying it. Expecting season 2 in May I believe. She was very pleased with how it has seemed to capture the attention of the kids.

We started episode 1 of Firefly and our lovely Uverse stopped 2 X's and the pq ended up on 2 dots vs. HD, which is unwatchable on a 80" screen. I believe our speed on U-Verse tested at 18 mbps (not sure if I have the correct measurement).....calling ATT Monday.
Back to Firefly....you all think buying the Blu Ray is worth the cost.... -

Yes - cuz you'll watch it more than once!

You'll also have to watch Serenity, the movie based on the TV series.
edit: Serenity takes place after the events of the TV series. -

Oops - thanks for pointing that out - B5 is not out on bluray, only DVD.
So that doesn't meet the OP's request...still....

Ivanova was such a complicated conflicted character - she should have 'boffed' Marcus.

The one scene that sends chills up my spine is with Vir and G'kar in the turboshaft where Vir apologizes to G'kar about the Centauri invasion of Narn and the annihilation of their homeworld.
That just rocked me off my **** - one of the most intense tv series scenes...ever...blew me away.
