    If I remember correctly, there’s an online diary of the recording process. It may be a different solo album but I think it was Privateering. Guy Fletcher’s diary I think, Google it. Mark uses vintage tube microphones and vintage analog Ampex tape recorders that he had totally rebuilt. There’s a reason his solo albums sound so dang good.

    @dromunds , thanks for that info on his recording practices, I will investigate! @treitz3 I agree, and have most of his stuff as well. Few musicians can tell a story in song like Knopfler. And he has a knack for employing the perfect guitar tone/effect to reinforce his lyrics. I've read more than once that he would observe some event (someone's behavior) and write a great tune about it (My Bacon Roll, Money for Nothing etc). Genius. I also think Ragpicker's Dream is particularly well recorded. Devil Baby is a masterpiece.
