Rock trivia.......
Here's a great album that almost never happened. When this album was released in 1997 the identities of the artists involved were a mystery. A fake biography was created alleging that these guys were holdovers from the 60's everyone had forgotten that had reunited 3 decades later. Except for one detail. No one could remember them ever being a real band.
Well it was all a masquerade. Eventually it was revealed that this was the Tom Petty Band "The Heartbreakers" (minus Tom Petty) playing surf music for their own pleasure. The Blue Stingrays kept their identities secret for years and have never played a show but this one & only release remains a modern surf classic.
