    Yes - Fragile

    41KBMWZQC5L._SL500_AA240_.jpg

Listening to this CD brings back fond memories. I remember my first listen to this album many years ago (probably some time in 72') on a friends Teac reel to reel and a Marantz gold series stereo receiver. It sounded great. It wasn't my first foray into prog rock (E,L & P are probably the first), but this album solidified my enjoyment of the genre which led to groups like The Alan Parsons Project and Kansas...all of which are some of my favorite artists of the 70s.

. . . every time I listen to ANY Kinks (or ANY of Ray or Dave Davies solo efforts), I always muse to myself that The Kinks were one of the most overlooked rock bands of the century. These guys produce rock and roll just the way it should be.

    Check it out sometime...

    Deep Enough To Dream
    Chris Rice

    Lazy summer afternoon
Screened-in porch and nothin’ to do
I just kicked off my tennis shoes
    Slouchin’ in a plastic chair
Rakin’ my fingers through my hair
I close my eyes and I leave ‘em there
And I yawn, and sigh, and slowly fade away

Deep enough to dream in brilliant colors I have never seen
Deep enough to join a billion people for a wedding feast
Deep enough to reach out and touch the face of the One who made me
And oh, the love I feel, and oh the peace
Do I ever have to wake up

    Awakened by a familiar sound
A clumsy fly is buzzin’ around
He bumps the screen and he tumbles down
He gathers about his wits and pride
And tries again for the hundredth time
‘Cause freedom calls from the other side
And I smile and nod, and slowly drift away

Deep enough to dream in brilliant colors I have never seen
Deep enough to join a billion people for a wedding feast
Deep enough to reach out and touch the face of the One who made me
And oh, the love I feel, and oh the peace
Do I ever have to wake up

‘Cause peace is pouring over my soul
See the lambs and the lions playin’
I join in and I drink the music
Holiness is the air I’m breathin’
My faithful heroes break the bread and answer all of my questions
Not to mention what the streets are made of
My heart’s held hostage by this love

And these brilliant colors I have never seen
I join a billion people for a wedding feast
I reach out and touch the face of the One who made me
I’m deep enough to dream in brilliant colors I have never seen
Deep enough to join a billion people for a wedding feast
Deep enough to reach out and touch the face of the One who made me
And oh, the love I feel, and oh the peace
Do I ever have to wake up
Do I ever have to wake up
Do I really have to wake up now

Last night I listened to two new SACD's:

    Big Star - #1 Record/Radio City

Amazing to hear this in pure DSD remastered quality. I have owned the Original pressings, A white vinyl German pressing of #1 Record, the original CD version of the combined releases and now this SACD. It is amazing.

Any of you guys who love power pop or Wilco, REM, etc. should give a listen. Those bands all credit Big Star as a huge influence.

Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (30th anniversary ed.)

Outstanding re-release of an outstanding record. I was 9 years old when it hit the airwaves and played a 45 of "Bennie and The Jets" to death.

Did a bit of tweaking and positioning with my 5.1 setup tonite and auditioned my latest SACD in 5.1.

Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms

Majorly impressed. I am not a huge fan of 5.1 mixes but at least three cuts were compelling. Money, Why Worry, and BIA were faves with Why Worry being far and away the best 5.1 mix.
