Whats up everyone?
My wife wanted to watch one of her TV shows , Scandal I think it's called and wanted to purchase the DVD'd for season 2. I told her I'd check to see what it costs to rent from Verizon and Apple. Well then I got the idea to try out netflix again. I had Netflix for years and found myself not using the service . So a year or so ago I turned it off. Yesterday I turned it back on with the free month trial. I'll be honest , there is not much on there I want to watch. No Game of Thrones , no Vikings , not much of even 1 year old movies I wanted to see and didn't. We searched for a few movies we wanted to see and has been out of a year or so and couldn't find any of them.
Needless to say I believe after my wife finishes her Season 2 , I'm turning it back off. No need to pay for something that basically sucks now.

One persons suckage is another persons perfectly fine. Netflix might "suck" to you, but I've had the service going on 6 years and both my queues (streaming and DVD) have atleast 75-100 selections in them. Just because it's not for you or you won't take a chance on something, doesn't mean is "sucks". It's just not for you. Amazon and Hulu plus aren't any better really. Blame a lot of it on the cost and difficulty getting licensing. Hardly the fault of those 3 companies.

Just another perspective, not that either of the 3 are "awesome" but there are several series and movies I took a chance on and they turned out to be very good to excellent w/a few superb titles in there. Many of which I never heard of or never chose to watch on TV (if it was a series) or rent on DVD when it came out.

I would subscribe to their DVD service instead of their streaming service. Their DVD library is much bigger than their streaming service and there are tons of great shows out there that are on DVD now. If you don't mine waiting a couple days for the DVD's, it's a great alternative. Their turn around time is pretty good, average 2 days. May vary on if their is a hub close to your home. I'm not sure what type of show you are into but here are a couple of my favorites you can get on the DVD rental side.

    True Detective Season 1 (HBO)
Games of Throne Season 1-4 (HBO)
    The Wire Season 1-5 (HBO)
    The Sopranos Season 1-6 (HBO)
    Homeland Season 1-3 (Showtime)
Dexter Season 1-8 (Showtime) Streaming available
    Hannibal Season 1 (NBC)
Walking Dead Season 1-3 (AMC) Streaming available
Breaking Bad Season 1-5 (AMC) Streaming available

I subscribe to both to get the best of both worlds.

Netflix used to be a lot better. When they had the contract with Starz, they got all of the Starz series and a lot of their newer movies. If you are someone who hasn't rented a movie in the past 10 years, you can probablky find a lot on there, but I seldom, if ever find a movie on there I want to watch. I do enjoy their original programming. House of Cards and Orange is the New Black were both pretty decent. The main reason I keep it is for my son. It does have quite a bit of Kid's programming.

First off, I've had Netflix STREAMING for years and think it's a pretty good value (boosted by their recent original series additions). I dropped the DVD portion of Netflix in favor of RedBox rentals for a couple of reasons:

    1) We tend to only rent NEW releases
    2) There are several RedBoxes in our area

At about a buck per rental, I recommend RedBox to folks meeting the above criteria.

I had low expectations for Orange is the New Black. A show about a city girl who gets locked up in the slammer transporting drug money for her girl friend was pretty entertaining show, can't wait for season 2.

Re: Netflix...My wife and I are always bummed when a series we are into is over, and we always think we won't be able to find something new that is as good, but we haven't failed yet to find something interesting. The key is to not go by the descriptions or ratings. I don't know how many times we have passed up shows that we didn't think we'd like and then finally try them to find out they are really good. Outside of football season Netflix streaming is about 80% of the programming we watch with the other 20% being Netflix blu-ray movies, with the exception of when a new season of a series starts on Showtime (like Homeland, Scandal, House of Cards, etc)

    What's the resolution?

Most of the content on Netflix range from 480p to 720p, newer content with HD label are 1080p. I read Netflix was filming House of Cards in 4k. I'm not sure if it available to stream in 4k since I don't have any devices that support that resolution.

Netflix is loaded with awesome content...

Forget just the "big" shows, there is some really good original content and LOADS of documentaries to watch. I have yet to turn on Netflix and not be able to find something good to watch.

I stream with Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon. The one I turn on the most, hands down Netflix.
