Polk's Tweeter Upgrade - SL6502/6505 to RD2516 on RT/CS/FX series - WHY ???

When I was speaking with Polk's parts dept, to source a replacement sub driver (MW7015) for my CS1000p center, I had decided to go nuts (our of paranoia), and order more spare parts for my RT5000 rig, in case one blows in the future. When I got to the tweeter part, I was told that all tweeter models had been upgraded to this new RD model. Does anyone here have any clue as to the design and acoustic benefits of moving to this new model ?? Or did they simply change the driver name and nothing more ??

RT3000p : SL6502 => RD2516-1
FX1000 : SL6505 => RD2516-1
CS1000: SL???? => RD2516-1

Thanks
Neil

    Think of it like a computer.... new parts/tech comes out all the time that are compatible with your old computer that make it better/faster, etc.

    Polk redesigned the older tweeters using better parts/newer technology to make them sound better but still be compatible with their older crossovers. So you get the sonic benefits of newer tech, parts, materials, etc with these new parts.
