How do you guys feel about this site? I have always used Newegg.com or maybe Amazon.

I noticed they sell mostly refurbished stuff. This always worries me but deals are pretty good.

Thoughts?

Beware. I have had good experiences and bad. Not sure why, but that is the facts.

I've bought a few refurbed AVR's and my projector and never had an issue, but haven't dealt with them directly. They are an authorized vendor for most major brands and the warranty does offer piece of mind.

Got my receiver from there 2 years ago. Factory refurb that has worked flawlessly since day one. Wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

I have bought several AVR's from them as well and one just recently failed. I bought the extended warranty and it's still covered for a few weeks. Thankfully it kicked the bucket before the warranty ran out. :)

A factory refurb is the same whether you buy it from the manufacturer or from a vendor like AC4l. They a have been around for as long as I have been into AV and they are a solid company. I think I bought a refurb Marantz CD changer from them 14-15 years ago. It is still in one of my systems. The AVRs are typically just as good as new with maybe a shorter warranty. If that is a concern, they offer extended warranties I believe.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I bought two AVRs from them over the past two years. No problems whatsoever. In fact, when my Marantz came last week it was missing the setup mic. I called A4L's customer support and told them about it and they said I would have a new mic in the mail in about a week. Highly recommended.

I bought a factory refrub yamaha avr and it was like new out of the box. Look at it this way you can probably get a couple of models better for the same price.

I bought my pre-pro for my home theater and an AVR for the bedroom and both looked brand new but with a shorter warranty as has already been mentioned. No problem with either unit.

  • I bought a CD player (Marantz CC4003) from them about 3 years ago, and I've never had a problem with it. I'd definitely buy from them again.
  • Although their website looks a little "cheesy", IMO, my experience with them has always turned out okay.
Last purchase was a Denon AVR (years ago), and we never had any problems with it. Excellent packing and shipping costs weren't too bad either.

So far I bought 2 AVRs and both were great. Bought out door speakers and they were dented! A4L refunded though. I like this site.

I've bought components twice from them. Both times the items were listed as new, but I was sent refurbs. One item was fairly beat up, and they paid return shipping and issued a refund. The other item I got from them off ebay, they never even responded to any of my inquiries.

I don't bother with them anymore.

    This is what I would do;
If you find an item that interests you, check out the bad reviews on say,
Amazon. This is what you may get from the refurb. I think it is bolona
to think that someone went over the recycled unit with a fine tooth
comb fixing stuff. No money in that. If the unit has a lot of HDMI complaints
for example... you roll the dice, you take your chances.

They've been reputable for twenty years now. In the mid-nineties, they started blowing the highly regarded AR-302 and 303 speakers out the door at $299 and $599 respectively. The retail on them was $1,000 and $1,200 for pairs. For a couple years, anybody at work or such who asked me about speakers got directed to the AR-302. I must've sold 15 pair for them. After all, it was a good deal on a great speaker. I called Acc4Less one day and made them aware of this, with names and addresses of purchasers. I told him it was kind of "my turn" to have a pair. He asked me if a pair of 302's in cherry finish, for $199 total including shipping was okay. Those 302's are still in my daughter's bedroom.

I have bought one refurb from them, everything went great, no problems. My buddy bought a refurb receiver from them, no problems. Another buddy bought a refurb receiver and it ended up being a lemon. They cross-shipped him a new one. That one looked used (refurbs do vary in this respect), and I don't think the remote worked. But he has had it running for over a month now with no problems. As I encouraged him to, he purchased a squaretrade warranty.

Also, they often sell their refurbs on amazon. That's where I bought mine. Extra layer of protection, since if anything is wrong in the first 30 days amazon will make sure it is right...

AR = Acoustic Research around here. I'm sorry for your loss.

In 1994, for the 40th anniversary of the founding of AR, what was left of the company decided to come out with commemorative "present day" re-builds of the original AR-3a (303) and AR-5 (302). Ken Kantor had a hand in this, though to what degree I'm not sure. He was instrumental and present at the 40th Anniversary Gala that I attended.

Back when I started buying speakers, early 70's, I had AR-2Ax's, AR-4's, AR-7's and always wanted the 3a's but never managed to get a pair.
