I think my cat is suffering and is about to die

Oh man, I am getting ready to take my best friend to the vet. She's been a wonderful cat over the years and feel like she's my little girl rather than just a pet. She wont move and just lays in the theater room these past few days and now she is not drinking or eating. I know the signs and will pay every last penny I have to make her better but I really fear for the worst. I just dont know how I am going to cope emotionally if they say that I have to put her down. I love her so very much and its going to kill me to say goodbye.

I certainly know how you feel. Hoping what ever the problem may be is treatable and you have your buddy back.

Very sorry, PFB. I hope she can be saved. Pets end up becoming a huge part of our lives over the years and it's like losing a friend when they go.

What did you do? Ship the cat out UPS to the wrong address? or did UPS lose the cat, and it went without food and water for a few days before UPS found the cat??

Just made me snort coffee through my nose. Wasn't pleasant.

I feel for you. When I had to put my dog down, it was the hardest thing I've ever done.

Ironically, I wish I could put my parents down.

Of course, dogs are a man's pet. Cats are for women. I'M KIDDING! One of my best (guy) friends owns a couple cats. He also wears skinny jeans.

All kidding aside, if the pet is suffering and needs to be put down, it really is the best and most humane thing to do. Sucks for the owner, but best for the pet. I think most of us probably keep our pets a little longer than we should because we don't want to say goodbye. I think I probably held on to my dog for about a week longer than I should have. The smell was getting bad. See what I did there?

Well just got back and the good news is she is stable and under examination there was nothing seriously wrong. Her blood work is getting done so I will hear back from them soon. I am just so happy she never got taken from me in that animal hospital so I cross my fingers and hope to hear good news back.

I think Larry had the proper diagnosis, here.

And I must apologize because I can't identify with the pet loving crowd, not that I dislike animals, there are just too many things to attend to in the human universe without also having to ooh and aah over non-humans as well.

When we domesticate wild animals it then becomes our responsibility to look after them as they no longer know how to fend for themselves. I never imagined I would ever like cats but I got stuck with a present from family and since then I love my cat and got another for her to play with.

If you had pets and saw how loving they are you would feel the hurt like the rest of us polkie pet lovers.

My male cat was like that last year, and I thought it was his time. Took him to the vet and the blood tests said his kidney's were out of whack (medical term). A week of IV fluid seemed to fix that, and now he seems fine.

Glad to hear your cat's gonna be OK. I have a cat, three dogs and a bird. Well, really 4 dogs as the cat thinks it's a dog: lines up with them for treats, plays with my pit bull mix, sleeps with them.

Got to shower them with affection as no matter how long they're with you, it's not long enough.

No desire to have pets, but I can respect the feelings of those who do. I raised two kids, and I think I did well, that's enough.

I also don't like cat videos.

Glad to hear things are on the mend for you!

Cats are a mixed bag. Some like people, some don't.
I had one that liked to hang around my desk and when I listened to the
2 channel was always in the room. The other one hated my guts.

Like the saying goes, The more I meet people the more I like my pet! Best of luck on your cat. I lost my 9 1/2 year old golden retriever last week and it has been the worst pain and emptiness I've felt in a long time. It is much worse to lose one when you don't have kids in my opinion.

I didn't mean to precipitate a Firefight here guys, sorry if I set people off. We're different and that's not a bad thing now is it?

You should also remember that people have an "ego" and can say "no". Most animals reflect their owners wishes and desires. It is much easier to deal with that than an equal who can negate you, me or whomever.

I had a girlfriend back in the day who was never able to love people, but she "loved" animals, she even gave the reason above as why.

The short, relationships with people are qualitatively different.

My profuse apologies to everyone who thinks I crapped this thread. From now on, I'll keep to my side of this "continuum" of relating to "others"!

More PFB drama. Probably doesn't even own a cat. Love to see a pic of him in skinny jeans, with the supposed wife, holding the cat and sitting in the Porsche with a pile of broken electronics in the background. Too many tall tales for me. If this is true, condolences to the cat.
