That's a picture of a 601, and they now have a 1" dome tweeter, and an internal folded horn.

I dont like Denon Receivers...
I dont like Sony, never heard ES
I dont like M&K
I dont like Jensen
I dont like Bose
I dont like Pioneer, or Pioneer Elite
I dont like Onkyo
I dont like Panasonic
I dont like the new Advent
I dont like Infinity (new)
I dont like, ALOT of things audio.
My personal least favorite has gotta be Denon receivers along with anything with a Bose name on it.
In close third is Pioneer/Pioneer Elite,
Then comes Onkyo, then far far away is the rest.
Yep thats my list.
Why? I either don't like the way they sound, they're overpriced, i've had a bad experience with the gear, etc etc- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Thats it!!! I'm trading in my Polks.:(

BTW, Its Friday, I'm burnt and don't want to spend the rest of the afternoon here and boy does a cold beer sound good.***WAREMTAE*** -
Samsung has come out with some reflecting crap. Have you seen these turds? The front L/R each have a driver angled off to the sides to create fake surround. How it works is awful - these drivers are basically sent a delayed echo of the front L/R, what a joke.
Mmmm beer. I need to recharge my CO2 tank, arghhh! -
Pioneer... My first and strongest negative audio bias still lives...More later,

I wouldn't say that I HATE anything but there are some things that I'm indifferent to.....
Adcom amps. I owned one for about a week. I prefer Carver. Some love them but I just couldn't dig them.
Pioneer. The HPM-100's have a cult following but just never liked them, indifferent about thier electronics for the most part. I have a pair of CS-88's. The cabinets are fabulous the sound is another story.
Cheap horns.
Paradigm. Now, I'm not saying that I dislike them. I think the PDR series of subs is the best value in CHEAP subs on the market. I've just never been able to get fired up about the Monitor series of speakers. The Reference series is pretty decent.
Totem Staffs. Not a swipe at ATC as I know he has a pair. A buddy of mine has a pair that he runs with CJ and Jolida gear. The sound ok, cabinets are cool but they sound chesty to me. String acoustics are a bit to overdone, IMO. Surprisingly good bass but can't get past the thick midrange. He loves them, I don't.

Sid, why the beef with denon? I have an older dolby pro and have yet to find a reason to not like it. Just curious for your 2cw."Its worked so far but we're not out yet."

The highs are dirty
Mids are DEAD, I mean totally missing, no life, no vibrancy
Bass...BOOM BOOM, drives me crazy, over-pronounced, over-powering (maybe a better term?).
I think they're WAY overpriced. Any receiver a grand is in the range of being stamped as *overpriced*. Reason? You can get a KILLER seperates system for a grand....
I just don't like Denon, I dont like Pioneer Elite, I do not like receivers.
Now I have a Denon CD Player on its way I like their sources!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Are you saying that all Denon receivers are over a grand? Not so.
You may not like them, though I don't recall you owning one either, but the one I own was much less than a grand and sounds nothing like you describe. Different strokes for left handed people.

Not that I would ever try to change your opinion on something, but where can I buy a KILLER separates system for 1G? The cheapest pre/pro is Outlaw Audio at $950. I wouldn't go as far as to characterize the Outlaw as KILLER. Even if it were KILLER, it's already eaten all of your budget, Unless you know of some $50 amps. -
I dont like Denon.
I dont like receivers. Just my tastes...Are you saying that all Denon receivers are over a grand? Not so.
Troy, your the funniest guy I know! LoLDifferent strokes for left handed people.
Olp, I'm right handed. I heard Denon at Tweeter...and uh...no thank you. You would think Denon's deadness would match Klipsch well. In some respects, it does. Man that Klipsch sounded terrible paired with the Denon. So did the Boston, and various other speakers. Soon after we switched to a Pioneer Elite, and the same speakers shined. So we had that to gather. To prove one thing. The Denon was just terrible. This was the 3803(?). Slightly above a grand. Mind you.but where can I buy a KILLER separates system for 1G?
EBay.
ADCOM (535 (170.00) x3 510.00 for a 5 channel setup. Leaves 490 on a preamp. You can get a killer preamp on EBay for that $$$ , 545 (200-250.00) x3 750 MAX, still leaves a good amount for a preamp! Adcom GTP-600)
ADCOM or NAD or Rotel (dont know model number) or Marantz, all go for barely over 200, sometimes in the 300 range. (preamp) (GTP-600, NAD 917)
I'm still amazed at how much people overlook EBay just because your dealing with used gear.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
My first hatred in audio has got to be sony car audio. I'd pay more for the cardboard that they're packaged in than i'd pay for the gear. If someone ever gave me sony for free i wouldn't desecrate my car with it, i'd just sell it to some stupid 16 yr old who doesn't know jack and thinks xplod is the shiznit.
Bose is a close second to sony.Hemi: (HEM -e) adj. Mopar in type, V8, hot tempered, native to the United States, carnivorous, eats primarily Mustangs, Camaros, and Corvettes. Also enjoys smoking a good import now and then to relax. -
Sid,I have always thought denon to have a very smooth sound overall, never weak in the midrange and the upper end to be very none fatiguing when used with the right speaks of course. And as far as the bottom end being boomy? They have never sounded like that to me, maybe the loudness option ( or what ever they call it now) was activated and sometimes will give you that boominess that you refer to with certain listening material."Its worked so far but we're not out yet."
"Hey big man let me hold a dollar" -
HTIB's are what I dislike, I mean the ones that claim 500 watts of power, progressive scan dvd player, five speakers and sub, but yet still sell for around $100. These usally come in brands you never heard of.

I hate Sony watt ratings on their receivers. How the hell do they get away with this crap?
I respect Sid's opinion about receivers. I've always wondered what my system would sound like with dedicated amps and not use the receivers amplification.

Sony follows the guidelines set down by the industry, granted its barely a guidleine for measurement, but its there. Sony is not the only manufacturer that posts some questionable power ratings, or is this just Sony bashing time?CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Not trying to bash. There are lots of manufactures that participate in "watt abuse". I'm sure your ES line ratings are more accurate. Sony stands out for me, because of the big stickers they put on their sub $300 receivers that say "700 watts", and I always have to explain to confused customers that some of the other receivers that claim just a mere "480 watts" have better amplifiers in them that will outperform the Sony.
Ideally, I wish all receivers were rated at "20hz to 20khz all channels driven."

All channels driven is key to the ps.
BTW Toby, I found out in a meeting last week that your fiance works with my good friend Sean at Lucent. Small world my friend!
Lets make some plans for some beers dude. I need an intervention:D

PT - I agree completely that there needs to be a clearer definition of how the power is measured. It is their position in the marketplace that drives those claims, they are one of the top manufacturers. I would say its a marketing problem if anything. Obviously they don't care too much about how that comes across to you and I, the educated consumers, because it has been the same way for years.
Sony claims that because it is possible, but the problem lies in the distortion levels at that same claimed, advertised power. Sony uses the method of rated power before audible distortion...now that in itself is the wrong approach, IMO. I want nothing to do with 500x2 if its right on the verge of sounding like crap.

Of everything I've owned I can't really say I hate any of it. Had the Sony receivers, all grades less the ES. Heck, I still have a 10 year old Sony 2-channel powering the livingroom Polks. Had Onkyo, HK and Marantz as well. Some I liked more than others, none were so horrid I'd never give them another go around. The HK I had, had a lot of problems with it so it was returned.
I've not heard any other amps then the Adcoms I have now, but I do prefer them over any receiver I've owned.
Peace Out~:DIf...

Now that's a sensible response. Hate is such a harsh word. Especially when lots of experts can't tell the difference between amplifier A and amplifier B. Would have loved to have you at the Texas shootout Syd.
