I've finally finished a second (and last pair) of 2.3's, I'm pretty sure these are the last pair of SDA's that I'm going to rebuild. The 2.3 TL's and the 3.1 TL's are my reference speakers, no need to look any further.

I thought I would share a few pictures of them, I'm very happy with the results. I made new Top and Bottom Caps from some Quarter Sawn Red Oak.

The new tweeters and components are burning in nicely at around 80 hours so far. I would like to thank our own Dave Shirly of DHS Speaker Services for the X-Over rebuild, he did an exceptional job on every aspect of the recapping of the boards and associated hardware, I'm very pleased with the results so far.

Those of us who are a little "Tech Challenged" are very fortunate to have members like Trey (Vr3 Mods) and Dave around to perform tasks above and beyond my pay grade. I've had the privilege of doing business with them both, they both do exception work and I recommend them highly.

Thanks guys, they are an extremely clean pair, not a smudge or scar on the front bezels and only a couple of small, very small marks on the back of the cabinets. All the drivers and PR's look as new, and just overall in "near mint" condition. I feel fortunate to have come across this pair and will be holding on to them for quite some time.

Mike they look awesome. Got to love Quartered (Tiger) Oak, one of my all time favorite woods. Thanks for the kind words. Glad I could play a small part in the restoration.

Looks great! Not knowing how thick the trim pieces are, did you mount the side trim pieces on top of the existing cabinet or did you route out the cabinet so they would be recessed? Did you build the rack as well?

I removed all the side, cloth covered panels from the cabinets. Made trim pieces (3" wide x the thickness of the cloth covered panels. Ran a double bead board detail on them, finished and glued the trim on the cabinets, took final measurement of the side panel width, ripped them down and recovered with new cloth, glued the new covered panels back onto the cabinets. I like the look of the trim, gives the cabs a more detailed, finished look in my eyes.

Yes, I recently built the rack also.

Wow, nice setup, Mike! Beautifully done work on the 2.3TLs (Dave too) and the stand. They look fantastic the way you've got them arranged in the room with the tastefully-done room treatments too.

Great restomod on the 2.3's! Just what I needed to see 2 days after purchasing some 2.3tl's my self. Now I know why everyone was poking me about opening up my wallet. I think the tweeters will be my starting point. cha...ching chaaa......ching.

he he, Replacing the original tweeters is a good place to start, when ordering from Polk, make sure to tell them that you are a Club Polk member, will save more than just a few dollars.

Save your pennies and refresh the cross overs also, these two modifications (tweeters/x-overs) probably have the biggest impact and will bring new life into your SDA's.

Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Mike, I picked up the 5/4" Oak when I was shopping for material for the rack. I made the caps at the same time I glued the rack together.

I think the caps that were for sale here some time ago was made from Tiger Maple, very pretty stuff.

Wait till the Sonicaps are burned in.

I've got about 85 hours logged on so far, and they are getting better by the hour. The RDO's are getting sweeter also. It's fun to hear the differences in the initial burn in.
