So I'm heading down to Austin for a week - March 11-18th and wondering what suggestions you might have for "must see" attractions. I'm visiting an old friend of mine but he will be working some during the day so I'll be on my own exploring some of the time. I'll be close for the downtown area and have access to a bike so anything around there would be great. I also plan to check out some of the music fest free concerts while I'm in the area! Thanks

    With SXSW going on there will be a crazy amount of stuff going on downtown, tons of live shows to check out. What else were you looking at getting into?

    Hoping to find some good areas to run and bike as well as some good beers on tap or cool record shops, or thrift shops.

    depending on how close in downtown you are you can just go down to town lake and run or bike around there. You could also cross town lake and run or bike around Zilker Park. THE record shop to check out downtown is Waterloo records, its at 6th and lamar. If you can get to it, Whetstone Audio on the other side of sixth is supposed to be a pretty cool audio shop, dealing in mostly British brands, haven't had a chance to get there myself though.
    Main 2ch -
    BlueSound Node->Ethereal optical cable->Peachtree Audio Nova 150->GoldenEar Triton 2+
    TT - Pro-ject Classic SB with Sumiko Bluepoint.

    TV 3.1 system -
    Denon 3500 -> Dynaudio Excite 32/22

    Personally I avoid Austin whenever possible. Problem is I have to drive all over the city as part of my job.

    Anyway, I suggest you pay a visit to Texas Rib King. In north area, Burnet and 183. They have some of the best ribs in the city.

    There's an attraction.

    Coolsax gave some great advice. I like Audio Systems a lot too, plenty of nice gear there to check out. Waterloo records is a great one, so is Antone's Records. Town Lake hike and Bike trail is definitely fun, and be sure to check out S. Congress and hit up some food trailers.

    Pinthouse Pizza for pretty good pizza and an amazing beer selection.

    Black Star Co-op was good for beer and food.

    When we were there we found a local free paper that was a guide to the local beer scene, seems like it was seasonal and up to date. Other then that I just enjoyed finding my way around after talking to locals. Everybody was really nice, the beer and food were on point, and we had a great time while we visited.

    Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I'll definitely plan on hitting up the record shop and audio store mentioned, the Texas Rib King sounds pretty good too!

    Sounds like there is a lot of BBQ to check out! I shouldn't have to worry about traffic as I'll be on foot or bicycle
