I have 5 different types of speaker w/ different connectors . On my Klipsch smalls, small spring tabs. The ADC 303ax old school straight blade screws. DCM TF 350 beefyer may I dare say heavy duty spring tabs JBL J-2060 also spring tab and on the Polks of course 5way binding posts. Also for zone 2 on my Yamaha rx-v655 they use mini spring tabs but all other speaker connectors are 5 way binders. So any concensous of termination or if it holds and takes the given wire it's ok. Me I'll go w/ the binding posts all day long ,they afford much more flexability and make for a neater installation much less chance of a stray wire. I know I have said I wouldn't change the posts on my 2Bs but what is the trade off between cost and sonic benifit. Slap me if you will but when I keep rereading positive posts of results using new named binding posts I might reconsider this 1 more mod. Price is limiting and if I can not improve on any sonic benifit should I just save up and just do the x-overs and be done w/ this. Links would be nice plus opinions on the connectors them selves.

Spring clips are the absolute worst, not to mention the cheapest route possible.

Lew, there are many expensive binding posts, such as Cardas or Vampire, and they're excellent, but much less expensive posts can be had, that are solid, gold plated copper. I use imported posts for my cost conscious customers. I can give you details if you'd like.Home Theater/2 Channel:

As a basic answer to your original concern; the best connector is the one with the highest conductivity/ least resistance. This usually translates to a barrier connection or binding post but materials used in the construction of these components also play a big part. Silver being at the top, oxygen free copper (uncoated with any other material except possibly silver) is very good. Other materials start dropping in conductivity pretty quick in comparison but also may not have the tarnishing characterisitcs which may (even though much poorer to begin with) keep a better connection over a very long period. Once again, silver being an exception; tarnished silver is still one of the best conductors. If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of Progress?!

Although not mentioned in your list of connectors, I like the convenience of banana plugs.

Whenever I do have the 5 ways I use bananas. I use the double set screw type and are the cleanest and easiest way plug in speakers w/ the best connection. I saw those SEWELL DREADNOUGHT bananas the other day and thought they might be a better way. The usual compression banana plug I do not like ay all. The Polks the rear of the avr and the Adcom are my only 5-ways that can take them. Not sure of the Polks but for sure the Adcom can not take the 10gu wire throught the post holes so going direct is out of the question.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E
