Do we have any AARP members here?

Don't bust my chops here!!! I turn 51 and I start getting old man stuff in the mail. Yesterday I received a letter and cards from AARP and opened it today. Then I figured I come and ask here for your thoughts. I'm not sure if I should join or not and the yearly fee is affordable enough so I thought, why not? but ............................................... any suggestions? And I thought only old timers were AARP members!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks

They're knee deep in the Obama Care fiasco, and never donate to any other party but one. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out who's side there on.

Exactly why I didn't join them when I turned 51 last year. Eventually, they will figure out that they alienated an entire (large) segment of their potential membership group. But, they will never get me back, if I join any of them I will go with AMAC.

Was a member of AARP for 2 or 3 years but, for reasons several others have mentioned, as well as prices on insurance, did not renew a few years back. I joined for the auto and home insurance they offered but each year the prices went way up! When comparing to other insurance it was not worth it any longer. Not a member of anything right now, but will check into AMAC.

Doesn't matter what your political views are. The reason being membership dues should go to or apply to benefits for the membership. Not always the case among various organizations. Or at least I should say the percentage of money going to benefits verse political contributions.

You are a great American! I sent them a letter saying I no longer wanted to receive their crap and they still send it. Now I just write "Bama Care" on it with a NO circle around it and send back to them in the prepaid envelope.

This is freaking amazing, as I just wrote that I received an email with the subject "AARP Members Get a FREE Gift and Member Benefits!" I wonder if they have ties to the spy agencies?? :)

I'm a member. Joined because of the discounts on restaurants and hotels. Also, enjoy reading and learning about investment strategies for retirement and Social Security strategies. I don't care about or pay any attention to their politics.

Well, to each his own, but their politics (whether you agree with them or not) can affect your standard of living in a much greater way than a silly-**** discount at a hotel or restaurant...

Don't want em, don't need em. If I decide to sign up with a senior organization it won't be them.

I'm perfectly fine with just getting my senior coffee discount at McDonalds now.

I would not do that, but I think you can tape the postage paid envelope to a heavy item like a block in a box, or an old tire you no longer want and the post office must take it. I never get a postage paid envelope from them anymore, cost them some money.
