Has anyone heard a better center than the 706?

I'm not really considering any matching factors here. Just as far as getting the vocals perfectly natural.

Onix Rocket Bigfoot tops my personal list but then good luck finding one. The TOTL Paradigm monster center sounds pretty dang good too.

The 706 an excellent center channel speaker. Another awesome one is the Usher Audio 616-BE DMD. The Usher is grittier whereas the LSiM is smoother... I think it would come down to personal preference bectween the two.

I think the best center channel speaker is 3rd of whatever your fronts are.
    2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

Living Room: PC > Marantz AV-7703 > Emotiva XPA-5 > Sonus Faber Liuto Towers, Sonus Faber Liuto Center, Sonus Faber Liuto Bookshelves > Dual SVS PC12-Pluses

    Office: Phone/Tablet > AudioEngine B1 > McIntosh D100 > Bryston 4B-ST > Polk Audio LSiM-703's

Interesting, I saw a couple used ones (bigfoots) on ebay go for about $300 last year.

The Martin Logan stage center has got to be one of the best out there but will only go with other stats and when you sit up from the chair the "stage" collapses.

And? They do show up from time to time and being that they are no longer in business has driven the price down. But the entire RS series went toe to toe with speakers well above their price range. Having heard the 706 and the Bigfoot powered/supplied by the exact same gear, the Bigfoot sounded much better to me regardless of the price point. Judging a product by its price point is the absolute height of naivety.

When you own speakers any brand , the matching center will always perform the best with them. I never once heard a mixed matched front end sound better with a different brand center channel.
I don't even get this line of thinking. If the center channel of a given speaker package is not to your liking, you need a different line of speakers all together period.

From what I read no centers really match their fronts that closely. Mostly due to being a horizontal cabinet which result in uncorrectable off axis response differences. Having the same drivers with similar crossover points obviously help some, a little....

If the tweeter and mid configuration are the same as the mains(tweeter over mid or vice versa), then it should match the other speakers well. It's when a tweeter is horizontally paired with the mid(s), lobing is an issue. More center channels should be designed in the same fashion as the 706C.
