Not sure what I should put in there. a Grado seems to be fine, as I tend to like them, but I have not heard any in a long time.
I want to keep it like 150. Any better ideas on that?

Shure M97xe or Orotofon Red would be two good options. I've used both on my SL 1600 and prefer the Shure for less than perfect records.....2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer.

My wife just bought me a new Led Zep the song remains the same.....full on LP's heavy duty 180 grams at least. So I need to put in a new cartrage. A fairly good one...LOL I tried the Orotofon stuff before. Not cheap, back in the day. It was passable. did not float my boat really. The Grado or Shure may be better on the SL.

I had a Shure Mk v I believe back in the day w/ my Dual. Now I use the older Grado GF-3 and just got a Grado Black for $30 1/2 price then anywhere eles. They have other Grados and more brands. Truth be told I have not installed it yet, my tt died just as I got the cart delivered. I got it from Statement Audio Tom Manley the guy who works w/ Terry Dewick the McIntosh specialist down in Knoxville.

I used an AudioTechnica ML440a and a Shure M97xe on my Technics when I had it. They both sounded pretty good for spinning Led Zep.

Back in the day, I had an SL-1100A, with a Shure V15 Type V Micro-ridge stylus. One of, if not the best MM types available at the time. The V15 cartridges are easy enough to find, but getting a quality, after market Micros-ridge Stylus is another story. Most of what I see out there are Elliptical, which will work fine, but can't compare to the Micro-ridge. If you do find a Type V cartridge, and put an elliptical stylus in it, it's essentially a Type IV, but you'll always have the option to upgrade if you find a quality after market MR stylus.Home Theater/2 Channel:

I'm not a big TT guy but I do like that sound of that Shure cartridge. Mhardy had suggested a Grado somewhere on this site. Perhaps he will chime in as I can't remember if he actually gave a model number?

No I like Grado stuff, when I was using the TT I did have a Grado I Liked, but can't remember what one. I had tried a big buck Otofon back in the day. But was not thrilled with that. I now have to pull the SL-1700 out of the closet and hope it still works, altho it has never failed to work, but you never know..LOL

You should add the Denon DL-110 to your shortlist.

Yeah, I've read some really good things about that. Since all of my records are old and over played and all classic rock, may not be a bad choice.

My Pioneer PL-510 sat for 15 years covered in the Magic closet, that's where old stereo gear becomes Valuable Vintage Items.
I had to clean to speed pots and off she goes even since. I did get some new carts for it the Shure M97xe an Ortofon OM5 and a special cover from this place
