Then I'm going to apply some Dynamat to my Dell XPS tower. It has a removable side and when I push on it with my fingers, it gets more quiet. I'm also going to put a couple pieces on the bottom of the tower.

Oh, one more tweak. I applied a large piece of Dynamat to both of my captive bead rings and immediately noticed the absence of ringing in my ears. Don't be jealous of my pointed sideburns, some people can pull it off and some can't!

With Dynamating my Blu-ray player, upgrading it's power cord, upgrading speaker cables and building acoustic panels, each time I had that Ah-Ha moment when I said, "Oh yeah, I undoubtedly can hear a difference." I'm going to be honest here, I didn't have that moment after doing the baskets in the RTi8's. I'm not really sure I can hear a difference.

I'm going to retract my previous statement. I need to learn to spend more time listening before reviewing. I completed my center channel and got everything hooked back up. I seemed to be hearing a warmer sound from people's voices from my center while listening to a movie on cable TV. So I went into my AVR settings, switched my fronts from small to large, and turned off the subs just so I'd be hearing the RTi8's and nothing else with music. I also turned the volume up more. They seem to have a warmer sound also. That was my biggest complaint with those speakers, they just didn't have enough bass without a sub. I really don't think I'm imagining this. You guys might be on to something. More to come.

I wanted to wait a few days before making another comment so I'd have a few more hours of listening time after treating everything. The surrounds are the only thing I haven't done yet. My fronts and center definitely have a warmer sound. My center channel sounds completely different. It has a much deeper sound. I have it set to "small", but it still has a warmer sound. I had to raise my TV two inches to get the CSi3 to fit when I got it. And it's actually two inches higher than I'd like. I know two inches doesn't seem like it would make that big of a difference, but when your sitting nine feet away, it does. So upgrading to a CSi5, isn't an option because I'd have to raise the TV even more and I hate having to look up at a TV. From what everyone here has said about the CSi5 having better midrange, I can only imagine that my CSi3 now sounds slightly more like a CSi5 and I love it. Voices sound much more natural. The RTi8's are deeper as well. I think this Dynamat treatment is a MUST for anyone that doesn't have room for the larger center. It also makes sense to do this to any of the RTiA/RTi series since they are known for being bright. This doesn't make the tweeters less bright, but it helps give the speakers a more balanced sound.

Initially, I didn't hear any difference after doing just my front speakers, but I only took the time to listen to three songs. I only heard a difference after doing the components. But the fronts definitely have a stronger midrange now. I wish I would have done the components first and given them a listen before doing the baskets just to better understand where the difference is coming from. I imagine it's a combination of both, but I don't know. I listened after treating my AVR and didn't hear a difference, but didn't have a lot of room to treat the inside of it. But after treating the power conditioner and putting everything back together I noticed improvements. Do you think treating the power conditioner could have made that much of a difference? F1nut had mentioned in a different thread the Monster power conditioner can adversely affect the sound, but didn't mention why. I'm wondering if it has to do with the severe ringing the units have when being flicked. Opinions? The reasons I'm not contributing the difference to the Blu-ray player, is because I still hear the difference when watching a movie off of Dish, or from listening to compressed music off of a thumb drive. I still haven't had a chance to watch a Bly-ray yet after adding more to the 51FD.

Or did treating my earrings make the big difference? You guys are a tough crowd, I thought that was gold! I don't think you guys appreciate the time I take to amuse you.

    Pioneer SC-05 - Dynamat Xtreme

After finishing the RTi8's, I disconnected my SC-05 and pulled it out. The lid actually seems really solid due to the ample amount of screws on the top, sides and back. I didn't hear any ringing, but wanted to apply Dynamat where I could. After removing the top, I saw that there really wasn't much room for it. Some of the boards come within a couple millimeter from the lid, and it has a lot of bracing that contacts the lid.

I had taken pictures of the lid, but forgot to take picture of the places the Dynamat was applied to the inside. There isn't much room to apply it inside. But I've got it taken apart right now, so I thought I'd snap a few shots. I also applied it to the bottom side of the bracing that the lid screws to, that run down the center. There must be 20+ fuses inside that thing that I noticed while poking around.

So what about this dohicky I have marked in red? Forgive me, but I don't know the inner working of electronics. Everything inside is pretty much a conooter valve to me. Should I apply a strip to that or is it something that gets really hot?

Don't worry, I'm going to blow it out with air before I close it up. Forgive the dust.

That's the transformer. You can put some on the top if you want.

What about Caps - can you dynamat caps in speaker Xovers, power amps, pre amps?

There's nothing wrong with covering everything, but it's certainly not needed, IMO.

agree, just add some and give it a flick with your finger if the ring is gone the job is done....
