The TFM 35's were the first amp I ever had in my rig. I love them, but feel you could do a bit better. Look for something like a Sunfire stereo grand 300/2 or the 600/2 Signature if you can find it. The high powered Parasounds and Pass Labs are also very nice on the big girls.

I built my own 400wpc mono tube amps to power my setup.

I went from a tfm 45 on mine to a McIntosh mc2500. That was one of the best upgrades I ever made on my rig and has ended my amp search.

My Father runs his off an NAD 218 for the lows and just added an NAD 214 for the highs. He is really pleased with the 214 on the highs as opposed to the 218 he had on there before. You would be fine with just one good amp however.

Have tried several on both my SRS and 1.2TL's. Carver M4.0T, 1.0T, Marantz 170DC, 140, dual 140's Adcom GFA 555II, dual 545 II's. Currently am running GFA 555II on the SRS and dual Marantz 140's on the 1.2 TL's. I have not tried tubes at this point.

Running a single Parasound Halo A21 on my SRS. Sounds great but at times I feel it could use a touch more power.

I ran Carver TFM 35's bridged mono (using AI-1 of course) with a Sunfire Theater Grand II preamp. Sounded pretty good, plenty of power, however, my 50 watt tube integrated (Svetlana Winged C's and Mullards) sounds much better and there is plenty of power to rock the house. A lot less watts than the Carvers but a lot more soul.

The first amp I ran in 1988 was a Carver M1.0t and had nothing to compare it with. 5 years later I put it away for a Carver TFM-35 for about 20 years. Recenlty I heard TennMan's Adcom GFA-555 on his speakers and noted how it sounded much move lively and involving so I brought the TFM over to his setup and compared it to the Adcom. It was like night and day. The Carver sounded like a thin blanket was over the speakers. This is not mind games, it was THAT bad. The carver had good bass but the mids and highs were very laid back.

Then we tried a Kenwood Basic MD1 (127 wpc) and it sounded much better than the Carver in the mids and highs with very close to the same bass impact but not quite the impact of the Adcom. So yesterday I took delivery of an Adcom GFA-555 with a Musical Concepts mod. I got a great deal on it but it needs some TLC and to be gone through so I have a project for the next winter month.

    Fun stuff,
    Greg

I use a pair of Perreaux Prisma 750 monoblocks, biwired, with Morrow SP7 cables and a Dreadnought, because the monoblocks are not common ground.

    Great sound!

Before the monoblocks, I used a Perreaux PMF3150.
Family Room, Innuos Statement streamer (Roon Core) with Morrow Audio USB cable to McIntosh MC 2700 pre with DC2 Digital Audio Module; AQ Sky XLRs to CAT 600.2 dualmono amp, Morrow Elite Speaker Cables to NOLA Baby Grand Reference Gold 3 speakers. Power source for all components: Silver Circle Audio Pure Power One with dedicated 20 amp circuit to main panel.

Exercise Room, Innuos Streamer via Cat 6 cable connection to PS Audio PerfectWave MkII DAC w/Bridge II, AQ King Cobra RCAs to Perreaux PMF3150 amp (fully restored and upgraded by Jeffrey Jackson, Precision Audio Labs), Supra Rondo 4x2.5 Speaker Cables to SDA 1Cs (Vr3 Mods Xovers and other mods.), Dreadnaught with Supra Rondo 4x2.5 interconnect cables by Vr3 Mods. Power for each component from dedicated 20 amp circuit to main panel, except Innuos Statement powered from Silver Circle Audio Pure Power One.

I have the same as you, two Carver TFM-35s but mine are running mono not bi amped. I had the amps refreshed and upgraded by Hi-Tech Audio in Oregon last year which helped, they sound better than before. However, I believe the Polks could sound better if I had better gear.

I initially was running a mid-tier Denon receiver on my SRS. Upgraded to one of the top model Yamaha receivers with much improvement. I am now running a Parasound Halo A21 off a Pass pre, with more improvement. Unlike tratliff, I really don't feel like they need more power.
SDA SRS modded: X’ovrd, de-polyed, inductorized, interconnectorized, re-posted, dynamited, RDO’d, spiked, gasketed, ringed (Larry's), and grill cloth blinged! Done this on my own? Not a chance. Thanks to Raife and all who forged easy to follow upgrades. At least a 100% improvement in sound and my personal listening pleasure! :cheesygrin:Pass XP-10 preamp, Parasound A21 amp, Pioneer Elite DV-58AV (Ric Shultz modded), Audioquest Sky IC's, No longer need my Sunfire sub after mods...

One can see from my signature I was influenced by DarqueKnight early days reviews, and still enjoy the MOSFET tube like sound enough not to be looking to upgrade.

Marantz PM95/DFA1000 for the top end. Parasound 2200 for the bottom. All restored and slightly modified. So, Lateral MOS FET's for the top and BJT's on the bottom.

A Sansui CA-2000 pre and a freshly restored Phase Linear D500II and it is amazing. The 1.2tl's now have 302 hours on them since the crossover upgrade and are really starting to shine. Even though I had my doubts during some of the early periods but patience is really starting to pay off.

Finished the Adcom today. Completely stripped every part from the case and the heat sinks. Cleaned everything up. Removed the black anodizing from the heat sinks because it had faded. Went through the input/control board replacing the electrolytic caps, a pair of film caps and 2 diodes that were out of spec messing up the DC offset.

WOW. That's a great sounding, accurate and dynamic amp. Not sure if the Carver TFM-35 is just tired on both channels or the transfer mod it came with doesn't suit my speakers.

    Pics to prove it happened.

Best sound I've experienced on my 1.2TLs (and my Carver Amazing ALiii) was bi amped - either Sunfire 300~2 or Carver M4.0t on the bottom end and McIntosh tube mono block MC30 pairs on the top - sweet!

They sound great with the Sunfire bi - wired too.
