Anyone know anything about the Infinity SM82 or possibly SM85? I saw a pair in a thrift store that need re-foaming but otherwise in good condition. I am trying to be good and not buy any more speakers especially since I just sold a pair.

Even if you were trying to be bad, they are junk so NO.
SM series infinity is something that you don't want to keep in the house unless you don't have any speaker at all.

You'll be wasting foam and time for something that you want to throw away.

Picked up a pair a year ago from the GW, re-foamed and flipped them. The "Polycell" tweeters are like fingernails on a chalk board.
Couldn't stand listening to them for more than 5 minutes.

... and even then, I'd recommend thinking long and hard.

... yeah, unfortunately, the SM series (all of them I've heard) are terrible sounding and cheesily constructed to boot. The smallest ones might be a little better, if only in the sense that a small cabinet ought to be less susceptible to chintzy construction than a large floorstander.

As bad as they are, the -82 and -85 were the best sounding of the line. ABSOLUTELY due to the cabinet construction mentioned previously.

Wow, thanks for helping me behave and save my $10. If anyone wants them they are at the GW in Columbia MD, off Snowden.

The cabinets were actually pretty solid. The thing that most made me wonder was the bass reflex port which looked like junk and possibly not even tuned.

They also had a pair of HUGE KLH speakers which were in nice condition but unfortunately junk. Sorry Mr. Kloss, I know that you had nothing to do with these.

Just think....for $10. You could have gotten them hooked them up to 110v and made your very own YouTube video of the results!

Those are pretty insane. Tempting but the cabinets won't fit in my pellet stove.
