    I'd say more of a syntax **** than a grammar ****...

I'd say, thread starters, call a thread what you wish, and the market will decide if it's worth viewing/replying to or not.

    Obviously, though, just my opinion.

(I expressed my Infinity opinions earlier, too)

Indeed, this thread manifests great economy, multiplexing two topics in one thread.

Do you like the RSb speakers? I found a pair some years back at my favorite local emporium... they were brighter than I'd care for (although I don't think I ever tried 'em on stands); I ended up giving them away (or selling them very cheap, I don't remember) to someone who did a nice restoration & sold 'em for (comparatively) real money.

Just not my cup of tea, though...

Odd Mark....you like horns, but EMIT's are too bright for you?

I seriously don't like bright/aggressive horns :-) ... and that is why the pair of Klipsch Cornies I once owned are long gone, and you won't find any (... well, OK, many) JBL components at my house!

Altec horns... a different kettle of fish entirely.

nice RSb's...they are on my list...I would really like to get my hands on a pair of RS III's...

anyway i agree horn tweeters also hurt my head after about 20 mins...

on another front i'm patiently waiting for the weather to warm up a bit so i can get my monitor 10b's crossovers done (garage is cold)

pics will follow that and arrival of my RSe's

I have RSIIIa's and love them. From what I've read the IIIa's and IIIb's have better bass response than the III's. And from what I have seen the III's are not as common as the later a/b models.

i do like the RSb, but with all new crossovers (including inductors) they need a little time. I also replaced the variable pots with resisters, and I might have just a tad too high a value for the mids. I will say they are not as laid back, or relaxed, as my 11T's, but are not abrasive to my ears. And the imaging and soundstage is really quite incredible. Very pinpoint.
I fell in love with these as a kid. My step father had a pair run with a Pioneer SX-980, I couldn't get enough. So, I am sure this whole project has something to do with chasing some youthful blah blah blah....
Looking forward to pics and your thoughts BKphoto!

that is one thing i don't understand with these Infinity's...why have tone controls on the speaker...? seems like overkill...

Is there a place where i can get info on getting rid of the pots and substituting resistors...?

I have 2 boxes to unpack...

    yeah...!

So most of us own Vintage Speakers, that does not mean that the Vintage Speakers forum should be for Polks only as many of us own Polks and other brands. So the vintage speaker section of Club Polk is about that vintage speakers. So with over 600 views it seems that it did catch the attention of that amount of members. To the OP have fun restoring those Infinitys.

You would set the pots to where they sounded best to your ears and measure the value of resistance at that point, and try to find a decent audio-grade resistor which matches that value. The L-pads in my set were already shot, so I didn't have a real chance of doing this, and so am really half guessing to start with those values. I have also considered buying new L-pads, but using a resistor seems like a purer signal path.
Do you plan on re-capping the crossovers?

and who doesn't love unpacking boxes....?? My task today is packing a box for somebody who will hopefully be enjoying a new amp at the end of the week.

    Nice little rig

When you get a chance bring them out another foot from the wall and slide the sofa from the image. I think you'll get a better response and imaging from them. I know you can't leave them that way, but you'll at least get the full realm of what they are capable of....

    Enjoy

    Cheers

the stands are a copy of the stands that came with the 10's (which were beat up pretty bad...I made them a little bigger, I had some old shelving that was laying around...they are sitting on some wooden crates that we use for magazines just to get them a little higher...

thats actually a chair that gets slid around depending on whats going on in the room...

thanks, My 1060 has held up well, needs a deoxit cleaning but isn't being used at all right now, I'm going to use it in my mancave/garage with these speakers and maybe an ijob ...when we have people over a lot of times we also hang in the garage because thats where the beverage fridge is and obviously there needs to be music playing...

has anyone out there rebuilt a pair of RTA 12's...? the passives look horrible so I may take the ones from my SDA 2A's that I'm going to part out...

why are you parting out the SDA? Do the part numbers match on the passives? There is some info around these threads about updating the 12's if you use the search feature.

I still have a 1020, and a 2150 dual mono amp. My 1020 needs a cleaning as well, but also sounds like a cap or two might need replacing. However it still sits in my rig for headphones.... the head amp section sounds surprisingly good. I keep telling myself I am going to get a separate headphone amp, but the 1020 gets me by so well, I keep spending money on other aspects of my set-up.

My Hafler is going to get the musical concepts dual mono power supply which MAY make it a non common ground amp which I cant use with the 2A's...got them for a song so not much invested...also not a huge fan of the SDA effect...picked up the 12's for less than a song and love the way they sound (also the way they look) so those will be my main speakers...as far as the passives go I think they may be different but they are the same size so I'll give it a whirl and see what happens...

the search function never seems to work that great for me I have no idea why...
