Xbox One

I finally got to get my hands on one of these today.
I have a customer with a Control4 system and he wanted to Install the Xbox One into it. Replacing his Blu ray player and adding a game system is something he's been wanting to do for a while now.

So I get it all wired up, turn it on and it turns itself off. Ok strange , Tried again got to the Xbox logo green screen and then it turned off. Called Tech Support and they deemed it defective after all their stupid ideas of Trouble shooting.
Sucks as I really wanted to take it for a test drive.

I gotta say I'm less then happy with Microsoft. I don't get how you can make such cool consoles that don't work. The Xbox 360 broke all the time. I'm currently on my forth one.

I was considering picking one up as it still seems extremely cool but I'm gonna wait until they work out some of the kinks.

Because you got one of the defective units out of the millions they sold you write off the whole system. I'm very happy with my day one, works great. Sorry your customer was unlucky, it's a bummer when it happens.

I'll semi agree with the 360 comment, the originals had a pretty hefty design flaw. Which M$ payed through the teeth for. They do seem to have gone to great lengths to avoid the same problem again though.

Keep in mind that all consumer electronics have about a 3% failure rate. The more complicated they are, the more likely some small thing can go wrong. So far, Xbox One isn't having a high failure rate. We have 3 here in my house with no issues and I have 4 friends outside of the house who bought at launch and are trouble free.

Don't give up on it just yet. It's a very cool system once you see it in action (though they need to do a few updates to iron out some of the minor issues).
    Equipment list:
    Onkyo TX-NR3010 9.2 AVR
    Emotiva XPA-3 amp
Polk RTi70 mains, CSi40 center, RTi38 surrounds, RTi28 rears and heights
SVS 20-39CS+ subwoofer powered by Crown XLS1500
    Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player
    DarbeeVision DVP5000 video processor
    Epson 8500UB 1080p projector

Did you try connecting it directly to your TV bypassing the control4?
Control 4 is a control system, the HDMI cables do not connect to it. The system has a Integra DTR50.3 receiver in it which all things HDMI hook up to. So the home theater system is the same with or without Control 4.

Heres whats funny , I had the original Xbox. It worked new and worked for many years and never failed. Then we upgraded to the Xbox 360. It worked for a while then failed. Sent it to Xbox and got it repaired. It failed again, repeat 4 times over the next few years.
So when I connected the Xbox One and it didn't work, all those bad memories came rushing back. I have no confidence in anything made by Microsoft.

I'm not giving up on it as both my son and myself would love to have one. but I'm gonna wait for this first patch to pass and Microsoft figures out the bugs.

I hear ya' on that. My current 360 is #14 since launch. No... I'm not kidding. I only paid for 2 of those, but there was a series of mishaps (like a fire in the UPS truck delivering my replacement, a bricked console from a dashboard update, etc.) that drove that number up. Since getting the 360S, no problems at all.

Fortunately, Microsoft were very hardcore about the QC this time because they couldn't afford another RROD fiasco. These systems have been tested in a chamber where they can drive the temperatures rapidly up and down to ensure there are no parts issues with heat, cold, shipping, etc. As far as the hardware itself goes, I would be confident in it this time around. There have actually been more reports of PS4 failures out of the box than Xbox Ones so far.

That said, the party system and messaging need work, which they'll hopefully address in an upcoming update rumored to be happening in March. I certainly wouldn't blame you for waiting to see how that all shakes down. Plus... March = TITANFALL. 'Nuff said.

I just got one yesterday, my wife brought it home and surprised me! Besides the fact that it took an hour to update and get going, then another 30 minutes to get Battlefield 4 up and running I can say it's AWESOME. I was waiting since I was still enjoying my 360 but it is way nicer than i'd expected, sorry to hear it wasn't working and you couldn't check it out. I haven't tried a Blu Ray yet but will shortly.

It didn't get me excited. For one that already means almost half are franchises we've seen already - so more Halo, Gears, and Forza with maybe Fable in the mix as well.

Eh I felt the same way until I got it, as far as the actual machine goes it's leaps and bounds above the 360. Believe me I was anti Xbox One and didn't feel the need to get one, however it's exceeded my expectations and i'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. I've only played battlefield 4 and Ghosts, Forza 5 will be my next purchase for sure.

Man, I wish I could stand Battlefield. Every time I've tried to play that game it's, "Okay, what are we doing? That objective? And I got sniped. Hey, I respawned! And sniped. New objective now? Sniped. Respaw... SNIPED? Helicopter! Dun dun dun dun daaaaa... sniped. I'm at the objective! F$%KING SNIPED! SCREW THIS GAME!"

And so I just play Ghosts. Heh...

I much prefer the tactics of Battlefield over the run and gun approach of CoD

I'm a lot better at COD and usually finish in the top few players, almost always with a positive k/d. With Battlefield i'll admit i'm not as good and there's definitely a learning curve, but it's more fun and less redundant with multiplayer and I liked the campaign a lot better.

I got many good years using XBox as a front-end media player with network attached storage using XBMC.

It appears that although the official XBMC team discontinued development on this platform, it has been picked up by another group of enthusiasts:
