DSWPRO 500 AMP stopped working. Replacement AMP Question

I have my DSWPRO500 for 4 years (right past the 3 year AMP warranty) and 2 days ago stopped working. The light on the back of the AMP does not work. I looked at the fuse and it is not blown. After a lengthy discussion with POLK customer service, they surmised that my AMP needs to be replaced. The OE AMP costs ($250) and in my mind, way to expensive for what you get. My questions:
1. Can I use another rear AMP (DAYTON Audio SPA250 WATT from Part's Express for $100) in place of the POLK replacement?
2. If not, can someone send me the POLK AMP specifications, so I can find a AMP this would work in this setup?
Thanks......BTW, I am looking to replace it with a SVS PB13 Ultra..... A little step up....in the near future, but not yet.

Call polk and have them send you a 550 amp, it bolts right up.
I just went through the same thing..
My DSWPRO 600 just quit working as well.. :-( that make two bad subs in two months.. -
How much was the 550 AMP? Same Price as the 500 ($250)?

This is very disturbing, I'm considering purchasing a 550 or a 660, how long should I expect the amp inside to last? They have shorter lives than receivers especially something like a Yamaha?
