My 10 year anniversary today

Well todays my 10th year anniversary of marriage to celebrate, I nearly forgot. I was working this morning and it just popped into my head. My wife mentioned it casually a couple of weeks ago and never said nothing again so I think she was testing me.

I think I passed the test as I left for lunch and ordered a bunch of flowers to be sent and had fun with the charming bunch of great looking girls in the flower shop trying to think up things to put on the card but I think I nailed it. My wifes very emotional so I know she will probably start crying in front of her colleges at work.

I really feel like these 10 years of my life being married only seems like 3 or 4 years. I cant cook for schiit so right now I am making spaghetti and making sure the house is nice and tidy.

How long have you guys out there been married for and whats the best or most memorable thing you have done to surprise your significant other on your anniversary?

10 year anniversary? Do they allow minors to get married in whatever state you're in? Because you certainly don't come off as much older the 13 or so. lol

Not someone I imagine could actually be with a "wife" for 10 years. A lot of the seasoned guys around here can't even last through the traditional seven year itch because they're SO "EASY" to get along with? Every one of them BLAME the former wife, but you have to wonder about that, no?

As for me, I married LATER because I'm NOT a moron thinking I would have any sense in my 20s? This will be our 21st year together--we dated for three years before that. And this is the only woman I've been married to! So take that you mid-life crisis boys with your topees and fast cars and BIG STEREOS, gold chains around your necks and those HIDEOUS shirts that display those greying chest hairs. YUCK! Start acting "your" age, it's not that "bad". And stop blaming the ex because "you" might be the "real" **** bag! lol

In some ways this entire site is one giant "apologetic" for a lot of middle-aged guys who just screwed up that first marriage, or second, or third and would have you believe they were "saints"! Sure! I believe you! Really I do!

Still looking for your "soul mate"? Just put on a pair of quality headphones and listen to something good for a while because that's NOT going to happen! The train left the station!

To PFB, your "WIFE" must be a "saint"! Don't irritate her!

Dude, your a terrible cook and your making pasta for her....on your anniversary ?

Take the woman out, spoil her.....god knows she deserves it. Drop a couple hundies on a nice dinner instead of rubber pasta in a crappy jarred sauce. Given your recent purchases, she'd be insulted if you didn't.

I never make dinner so I thought she would really like it if I put the effort in. I just said effort then thought 'what effort' as your right Tony because it is jarred sauce!! I was feeling like Gordon Ramsey there for a moment

Don't sweat the small stuff, my man, this is one of those times when it absolutely is the thought that counts.

But a nice restaurant would make for a fine place to have dessert...
    Congrats on the decade too.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Really if you think about it, the fact that we still come home everyday should be enough of an anniversary present.

    Congrats!

You have to gauge your wife on what she wants. My wife wants to simply be treated special on such occasions. She isn't looking for me to spend money. Yet, 10 years is special and it's one of those round numbers that she will be asked by her friends so you have to make it EXTRA special. So in this case I would spend a little coin on some jewelry, or take her to a bed-n-breakfast, or something else. If your spaghetti sucks then you may be in for it, but you might be able to make it up with second course or desert. Again, make it special and don't make it seem like you did this all last minute. And women can sense this stuff so be careful.

I was 25, wife was 22 after 1.5 years of being engaged. Been together for 17 years with 3 kids.

CNH is right, for some, but not all. People really need to think about the person they are marrying and about themselves too. That doesn't mean fully understanding the person since that takes years. But there are some basic questions and items that have to be looked at. Your thoughts and approaches to life issues has to be on the same page or there could be serious problems. This means understanding yourself first, and then seeing if someone will match up. You would think this is obvious, but I am constantly surprised by how many people get married when everyone around them could see the forthcoming train wreck.

10 years and counting here. She's my best friend, lover, laughs at my dumb jokes, encourages me to buy whatever I want for the audio system, has the patience of Job with her in laws  . . . couldn't ask for more.

Effort is good, but I agree with Tony - take her out to some place nice!

Well.....He was here posting about a quarter to 8 p.m. last night. You do the math. ;-)

Personally, I thought she'd be smart enough to figure it all out when she drove him to the florist's shop on their anniversary.

Consider me and my wife morons, then. We both graduated college on a Saturday and were married the following Saturday. We were both 23 and had been together for 4 years (engaged for 1.5 of those years).

Our seven-year anniversary will be in May.

I offer a heartfelt, tongue-in-cheek SUCK IT to you, friend. :)

I accept that and probably set myself up for it. But, OBVIOUSLY, there will be "exceptions". I wish you and your wife a wonderful life together. And seven years is not bad, but dude you're not even 40 yet. You might want to consider that your elders have seen a little more. Why is age never respected for its potential "wisdom" and youth so quick to anger? Got any kids? Sent any to college? Had any or ALL your parents die yet? Ever almost die yourself? Think any of that might bring you some knowledge most 20+ year olds might not yet have? Nah! I was 25 and 30 once and believe me, "I" thought I knew it ALL! I'd lived on three continents, spoke several languages had graduate degrees from the very best Universities in the U.S., but as far as women go "I" was a fool! lol

What I am saying is very much what maximllian below points out. I am also responding to all the rhetoric in our society about marriage and family when so many many many screw it up?

Or simply, it is better to wait, come to terms with yourself. See yourself as you REALLY are before you can actually be with "anyone" else. If you are not honest with yourself first, you will screw it up! And MOST do! The numbers are with me on this but they are not 100 percent, lol!
