I have a small 15 - 12 or so living room using a PSW202 & its not cutting it for me. Wife isnt into thump but i am:) Should i use 1 subwoofer or two small ones? The PSW10's are cheap & the 505's arent too bad price wise. Will i benefit using 2 small ones if spaced apart by 12ft facing toward me toe'd in ?
..
Couch on rear wall facing front wall
..
Front wall has from left to right
Sub-L speaker--amp--r speaker- (sub)i could place a sub here
..
Im finding myself wanting more bass from sub than the little 202 is doing. Any ideas ? TIA
..

More thump for movies or music ....or both ?

The 505 should pressurize that small of a room pretty well. Buy one and see if you like it, 2 is overkill imho.

Movies mostly. The Monitors really dont need bass for music Imo. Your probably correct with 1. I may find the PSW10 doesnt cut it

The 202 is probably a better sub than the 10, If you want more, then the psw10 shouldn't even be on your radar.....even 2 of them.

Yeah, the 10 is fairly puny. If your considering buying two 505s at a tune of what, 400ish? I would consider other companies that just plainly make better subs than Polk once your in that range. One GOOD sub will certainly perform better than two mediocre subs. At least in my opinion, but what's that worth??

I also agree eel like it'd be better to start with a single larger sub, and go from there. my understanding is that "you can never have too much sub" (within reason), and that a larger one will simply work more efficiently, whereas the smaller one has to work harder.

I just looked up the specs on both models, and it seems like the 505 can go lower, has way more power.
Size is relatively similar, with the 505 weighing about 18lbs more.
Also looks like it's got better controls.

I'm kinda in the market for a sub too, so this is a timely post.
If set on Polk subs, I'd go 505 of these two choices, but I also agree that possibly something from just sub people might be best all around. Personally, I'm considering HSU or SVS, my preference more for music.

man, I know exactly how you feel. I can't audition *any* of the Polk stuff around here. Closest store is Crutchfield, about 160 miles out. Everyone local just has B&W, Def Tech, Martin Logan, or just a handful of the midline TSx or TSi lines which are just sitting out on display at Best Buy, and never hooked up anywhere to listen to. I'm still curious about those, too, just the same. Sucks trying to go by reading reviews and stuff. helpful, but not the same as actually hearing them.

about all I can say is that there's a significant difference in delivery from a 10" to a 12" sub in general, especially in similar lines.

Yes I would definitely go with something like this this http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/stf-2.html if you are considering spending 4 bills. Remember that all you get from two subs is about a 3 db increase and possibly a flater response curse. Check out these reviews, both by Ed Mullen of SVS for info:

If you want to stay in the $200 dollar or less range. It's hard to beat the PSW505. I use a sub that has specs close to that that I bought for the ridiculous price of, you guessed it, $200 including shipping (MSRP $499--product was discontinued).

12" woofer, 300 watt RMS digital amp/600 watts peak (so a little more than the 505--but not really significantly), weighing in at 46-47 lbs. with a "supposed" 25hz bottom at +/- 3 db...so maybe a tad lower than the 28hz of the PSW505. But practically speaking very very similar.

I run this sub in an 11.5' x 17' listening space (there is another 8' of length behind the sofa, so 11.5' x 25') but there's a game table back there!

Let me tell you, this might not be the greatest sub you can get, sure you can spend hundreds more or thousands, but it DOES rattle the windows, shake the floors and disturbs my wife's office on the floor above the game room. For movies you can't go wrong, it is, though a tad slow, for some music but I don't use it for that!

So yes, the PSW505 will do the job in your room and do it on a "budget". If you have the money go ahead and step it up, you certainly won't regret it. But if this is mostly for film. The Polk will give that small room all the LFEs it can handle for now and leave some money in YOUR pocket!

You may have to wait for when newegg puts those on sale. It happens fairly often!

The 505 is a VG sub for movies at its price point ( I have one waiting to go in a second H/T setup down stairs ). It will fit your room nicely as it isn't a large sub. One sub will give a neater appearance to your room, especially when it is put in the corner position.
