Anyone else go see it? I read the book when it came out and thought they did a good job putting this into a film. Well worth the money to go see imho. I really liked the way Berg did the opening credits. I did not like how he did the village in the third act for lack of a better term. It was pure Hollywood from what I remember of the book. There were some interesting differences and some things that were in there that definitely belonged. All in all a great film with some great actors.

Yes and no. This is not BS it is based on a book written by one of the seals that survived. It's an amazing story. I read it back in 07 when it came out.

Agreed ghost. The book is phenomenal. I have yet to see the movie, but have high hopes, as I did see a couple of scenes in the preview that appeared to be straight out of the book. This is on my to do list for the weekend.

Not really. Historical non fiction can be a great source of entertainment and a way to learn about history. Leon Uris wrote some of the best IMHO.

I saw it with my 20 year old son Gabe and some of his friends last Saturday night.

The timing was tough because the next day I dropped Gabe of at the Marine recruiting center to ship out to Marine boot camp.

By the end of the movie his friends Louis, Hayden, and Ally and I were all in tears. I don't think Gabe was crying, but I didn't want him to see that I was.

I will pray for him every day.

Did Washington cross the Delaware? yes "Fact" do we know what was said during the trip no, so it could have been a joke per stroke paddle boat ride or a serious incursion with no talking. That is where Hollywood adds its own flavor.

I have not seen the movie yet, did not read the book only saw the 60 min interview. And what I take from that is this movie along with the book was his account of events and thoughts he remembers and what he saw, only supported by the declassified information provide by DoD. To come right out and say its a bunch of hollywood BS is a slap in the face to those who's lives where lost.

I'd tend to disagree. While I fully understand we'll never know exactly what happened there, and that "reality is relative to your individual view" (meaning the author's best efforts at recollections are still "his story" and not the whole story"), the book on which this is based is Luttrel's best recollection of the events that transpired during this mission. While not every single tidbit in the move is true, the gist of what happened is there.

Thank you for your kind words and prayers.

I travel frequently for my job and see a lot of young men and women in uniform at airports.

I always try to give them a sincere and quiet thanks for their service to our country. They always seem a little suprised and say thanks back and sometimes add that it is their pleasure and honor to serve.

It is humbling. Here I am annoyed about a cancelled or delayed flight, and these brave young men and women are patiently and quietly waiting to deploy (some into great danger), or to get back home for a few days or weeks to try to patch up a marriage or a relationship with a lover, see their parents, see their kids etc.

if you can pay for their lunch (usually at McDonalds, the military does not pay very well) or even have the opportunity to give up your seat for one so they can get on a sold out flight to get home on time, you will be richly rewarded.

Now I will have some skin in the game too.

God bless them all. They make me so proud.

As for current SEAL missions of course they are classified. There are missions that have been declassified and cleansed to fit the gov'ts agenda when they deem fit. Sole survior obviously is a real mission w/ the guy doing a segment on 60 minutes. The freeing of some CIA dude from a prison in Panama as the invasion there happened, the snipers who killed the pirates who kidnapped Captin Phillips, involved w/ the invasion of Grenada, Seal and Special Forces infiltrating Iraq to spot radar installations and taking over the oil offshore oil terminals and all kinds of missions in Viet Nam and of course the killing of Osama. These are tough busy dudes that like they say you don't want to know what we do.There is only one other tougher job in the military that I can think of, that is an Air Force para rescueman. He's got to do everything a Seal or SPs do such as knowing and handling every weapon, skydiving, scuba, repelling, survival and evasion and then being a highly advanced EMT.

First of all, let me get on the soapbox for a hot second and I apologize if this comes off rude. It is not directed towards anyone in particular but something that really irks me.

Just watched it on blu ray.....for anyone to speculate how "real" this movie is is beyond me. Regardless of HOW real it is irrelevant. Facts are many soldiers lost their lives during this mission and one survived. They were in circumstances that 99.9% will never know or understand thanks to their service. I can't stand people who speculate about this kind of petty stuff. For those who want to see how real it is, go join the military and see for yourselves. Thanks for all who serve this great country.

That is an inaccurate statement. The film is based on fact. It is classified as "non-fiction".

Is it 100% accurate? No, but then very few artistic renditions of historical events are.

It's called "creative license". The only films that are even close to being what you would consider 100% "fact" are called documentaries (and this film is not a documentary). Even documentaries are rarely 100% accurate.

According to all accounts from those who know the facts though, the film is fairly accurate with some exceptions. Unless we were there (and we weren't) we really can't discredit those who were or the film.

Passed up seeing this at the movie theatre and bought the Blu Ray to watch last Friday night. Excellent movie on all levels. +1000 on what Mikey mentioned above in support of our brave men and women who serve in the military.
