Sub-woofer or center speaker?

I have two Polk T300s, eight feet apart and about 14 feet from the listening area.
They are used primarily for music, mostly classical, and not for TV.
Which would be a better third speaker: a sub-woofer or a center speaker?
Thanks for any advice.

Welcome to CP Tom. I would go with a sub.

Hello and welcome to Club Polk Tom. I will second the vote in your case for a sub. Properly integrated, you will find that much of the music you listen too is missing without one. Not a night and day difference but enough to thoroughly enjoy the music all over again.
Tom~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
Welcome to the Club. Sub it is.

A follow-up question: Does the cable to the sub have to be the same length as the cables to the right and left speakers?

No.

Thanks, everyone, for the speedy responses.
I've just bought a PSW108.

What are you using for an amp? If you aren't connecting the TV audio through your speakers, I'm assuming you are using a 2 channel amp. Therefore, a center channel speaker is useless.Main System:

I'm using a Pioneer av receiver, which has outputs for both a sub and a center speaker.
I'll think about a center speaker later, but the system is just for music and most of the comments I've read about center speakers seem to indicate that its main purpose is to focus the dialogue to where the TV is. -

You are correct. When I use my HT to watch/listen to a concert DVD. I bypass the center and surround speakers and just use the mains and 2 subs listed below in my signature. I have a separate 2.1 system for CD and vinyl music listening.Main System:
