Has anyone successfully made a SurroundBar 9000 IHT learn from a DirecTV remote?

My Pioneer KRP600A can be controlled by it's own remote which my SurroundBar 9000 IHT is able to learn the codes for.
However I mostly use my DirecTV remote, which is also able to turn the TV on and off, affect the volume and mute on the TV, switch inputs on TV - which should be all I need for the SurroundBar.
However the SurroundBar WILL NOT learn the volume/mute/input codes from the DirecTV remote. No problem with power on/off apart from the fact that directv has separate on and off and there's no way to get the SurroundBar to learn both.
This is whether the remote is switched to DirecTV mode (system control - I believe it sends codes to Satellite Control Box and TV) or to TV mode (TV codes only I think).
Unfortunately, the codes the directv remote sends to control the TV do NOT seem to be the same ones sent by the TV remote as alas I cannot program using one and then control using the other.
Does anyone else have any insight or experience that may help here?
