Tweeter defect on SDA SRS 2.3TL

Hello everyone. I am a new member to this forum and sincerely hope someone will be able to help me here.
I was ecstatic to have recently purhased a pair of SDA SRS 2.3TL speakers on eBay, until I realized that the top tweeter on the right speaker does not omit any sound at all. How can I tell if the tweeter is defect or if the problem is in the circuitry within? If the tweeter is defect, where can I purchase a replacement for it? Please help.

Best is to swap it out with a tweeter you know to be working.
The SL3000 tweeter is no longer in production, but you might find one here or on ebay...

Thanks for the quick response. Is there anything I need to observe when unscrewing / detaching the tweeter?"Ring them bells that still can ring...forget your perfect offering...there is a crack, a crack in everything...that's how the light get's in." - L. Cohen

Just make sure you take it out gingerly, and ensure that it doesnt drop onto the ground or another tweeter dome.
Have fun looking for those original tweeters, its an endless process.
The replacement model is in the Service and Parts area of this website.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
PJ,
Welcome to the forum.
I have no doubt that your tweeter is dead, but you can take out the bottom tweeter and swap it with the "dead" top one to find out for sure. The top tweeter produces the most sound, so if you put the dead one on the bottom until you get a new replacement, then you won't notice it as much. Here comes the problem, getting a replacement. Polk doesn't offer the SL3000 anymore. They do have a replacement, but it's not the same. Solutions are replace all your SL3000's with the new replacements, search eBay until one comes up, place a want ad in the flea market section here, or get one new replacement tweeter and put it on the bottom until you can locate a SL3000. I will warn you though, finding a SL3000 is not easy. If you do decide to buy all new replacement tweeters and you want to sell the remaining SL3000's, I'll buy them.
The SDA SRS 2.3TL's are great speakers, don't give up on them because one tweeter went bad. What kind of power are you feeding them? It's very easy to fry a tweeter with underpowered amps.
One other thing, if you didn't get the manual with them, contact Polk for one. Do you have the standard interconnect cable? Are you aware that you can't use non-common ground amps without the AI-1 interconnect?Political Correctness'.........defined

Thanks for the pointers re. the replacement tweeters vs. originals and for pointing out that I can swap the bottom and top tweeters. If I ultimately decide to replace all SL3000s, I'll get back to you regarding your offer, thanks.
I'm currently using a SONY STR-K840P receiver, but that's a temporary solution until I get something nicer. I do have a manual for the speakers, thank you, and I do also have the original (I assume) interconnect cable."Ring them bells that still can ring...forget your perfect offering...there is a crack, a crack in everything...that's how the light get's in." - L. The original interconnect is simply a cable. The AI-1 interconnect includes an in-line transformer.
I would start sourcing some better amplification now, the search and suggestions will be endless. There is a NAD 2200 for sale in the Flea Market that would work very nicely.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? PJ,
Was the tweeter DOA or did it die after you hooked up the Sony? Either way, Doro is right, you need better power. Recommended mininum is 200 wpc of high current juice and in the meantime, don't play your music very loud because that Sony will cause more damage to your remaining tweeters.

F1:
I believe the tweeter was DOA. Thanks for the warning, too. I'll definitely keep it in mind.
