do I have the room and the power?

So I'm still thinking I would like to get a pair of 1Cs or 2Bs someday. The only place I can really put them is in my basement. The room is 16 x19, but there is a pool table in the room. It shouldn't be a problem putting them along the 16 foot was but will the pool table cause a problem with the SDA effect? Also do you think a NAD 2400 is sufficient power to drive them?

Seems to me your 7's are mainly doing background music. I would keep it that way instead of trying to get SDA's to sound good in there, with the pool table in the middle.

The pool table kills any hope of audiophile sound.

That doesn't mean you wouldn't have "enjoyable" sound. Just understand that you'll have "background music" not "sit down and concentrate on the music" music.

If the NAD is common-ground, or if you use an isolation transformer, it'll be fine. Perhaps not optimum...but certainly good enough for most folks.

Monitor 10's make good background music speakers. More bass, bigger sounding than 7's, etc.

2B's and 1C's would sound fine as well but not as good as they could.

To me, SDAs are for serious listening. They have a relatively narrow sweet spot, so if you're moving around the room shooting pool the wide sound stage they present collapses, and they may even sound odd depending on where your standing. The Monitor 7s are no slouch as are the Monitor 10s. They too are great for serious listening, but being conventional speakers, are better suited to background duty. You can certainly put a pair of SDAs in the room, but they'll sound no better than what you have now, other than better bass response. The pool table will definitely interfere with cross-talk cancelation.

+1 on the pool table killing the sound. I had one in my basement and that room was a sonic **** even with non sda speakers. I had a pair of recapped rta12's in there and even those didn't sound like they should. That damn table came out last year and voila........no more smeared imaging and I have bass in there now as well.

I would be more concerned on just getting a nice set first and foremost.
See my 1C are not in a very good room (master bedroom) with good placement
either but I am so so glad that I was able to find a nice set local and at a reasonable price.
There will be time for a better area for them, but there may not be a set available then.

Thanks for the comments, it pretty much confirmed what I was thinking. I was hoping SDAs would bring it to the next level but I guess I'll wait for a deal I can't pass up or room logistics change.

My 7s took offense to the background music comments. They said that what the little Bose up top are for. I can say the 7 sound very good down there. I often sit at the bottom of the pool table and do serious listening. I am very pleased with the sound. My friends often comment how good they sound especially right before breaking a rack.

Ha! Didn't mean to offend your 7's, too funny. I could see the Bose up there but they don't even qualify for music IMO so I figured you didn't use them for anything but wall decorations...

They are for when my sons friends come over. I just unplug the 7s, put them in a storage room and plug in the Bose. They have their music and I don't have to worry about sticks or balls going into the cabinets or drivers.

When your 7s stop pouting, tell them they're arguably the best of all the vintage monitors. Very balanced from top to bottom.
