Advice On Amplification

Before I begin, I want to thank Mantis and Dr. Spec for responding to my questions last year! My set-up is the following: two LSi 25 front, one LSi center, two LSiFX sides, two LSiFX backs, and 650 sub. To power these speakers, I chose a Pioneer VSX-47TX, bad move, 4 ohm speakers, 8 ohm receiver! Shutdown problems and overheating. Bought a Z FAN2, it takes care of 80 percent of the shutdown problems and is somewhat noisy. My question is "now that I have saved up a couple of bucks I'm thinking of purchasing the 770 7-channel Outlaw Power Amp. I've been assured by the people at Outlaw that it will match up to my receiver." Is this an overkill or is there some other combination I might consider? You can buy this amp through Outlaw with a slight blemish or as a returned product with a 5-year warranty for $1550 vs $1800 new. I'd appreciate input..as you can see I need it!

The Outlaw would be a well respected choice 'round here.

Try pairing it with the $99 Klipsch wonder AVP Ron P is playing with and sell your Pioneer...

With the speakers you have and the price point offered by Outlaw on the 770 I think its a good move. The amp is very heavy and will offer more power than you'll care to hear.

Good point from Tour but I'd just use the Pioneer as a prepro for now until you are satisfied that another purchase could free it up for use in another part of the house.

I think the little Klipsch is only 5.1 so that may be a limiting factor. I was considering the same thing myself. :D

William J., do you have to move some equipment or something to make the outlaw happen? Keeping the Pioneer for a prepro would be what I would try to do if I had your receiver. ;)

    Good luck

I did the same thing (using as pre/pro) with my oink. I am satisfied with the results I got when the the B&K amp, however, long range the oink will get replaced and go somewhere else in the house.
