In my Onkyo receiver my center speaker is set to full range , the level celebrator is set to the max,the center equalizer is set to the max and everything else concerning the center speaker is set to max but here's the problem...

There are times when playing a dvd the vocals from the center speaker is being heard nice and loud but then there are times when the vocals just go down or get's soft and low for some reason , the vocal is never constant and this bothers me .

When i'm over my buddies house checking out his Onkyo the vocals seems to be always consistent while playing a dvd.

This would happen when i had my Yamaha integrated amp , even when i changed center speakers nothing change , the vocals would go up and down .

I don't understand it..

It could be your onkyo. Swap a different speaker with your center and see what happens.

You should never have the center channel speaker level, or any speaker level set at maximum. Maybe anywhere from -2 -+3 is about the range I would think. You may have already done some damage.

How about the fact he doesn't have his crossover set for the center as well? I cross my center over at 80hz. I have tried lower and found it got too bassy, and tried higher and found it cut out too much of the male voice.

So turn DOWN your settings on your center and set the crossover on it to 80hz and see if that makes things better. 20 bucks says your friend has his crossovers around there and let Audyssey do the rest regarding levels.

P.S. Audyssey sets my ENTIRE setup at full range but I changed the crossover on my center to 80, the L/R is at 60 and the surrounds are at 90.

Will try all the above and hope for the best. My center speaker is a very large piece and the receiver recommends for large center speakers set to FULL BAND WIDTH but i'll tone it down to see what happens ...
