Okay, you guys need to come out with a thesaurus! When you say you gained head room, could you describe what you mean? Do you mean you can turn the volume up higher? Sometimes you guys make me feel an inch tall!

Think of it as a big power reserve.

Imagine you're riding a bike on a flat road. Now you come up to a hill. If you can maintain your speed you have power in reserve, IE headroom. If you have to slow down, good you have less headroom.

Keep in mind too, the more revealing your system becomes, the more those old crappy recordings will sound like horse ****. Nothing you can do about that unless you want to search out better quality recordings if available for that particular band/song.

Otherwise render it to casual listening at low volumes....to hide that horse ****.

Am I the only one that sees the irony in that? You spend all this coin to get better and better equipment, only to find that you have less and less music worth listening to. I feel like I've been a victim of a pyramid scheme!

Less volume helps bad recordings. :)

Yeah! So does "mute". I'm just kidding, most CDs sound good. F1 described it perfectly...bright highs and little bass on early CDs.

LOL....in some respects, true. DSKIP hit on tubes making those crappy recordings sound better and he speaks the truth.

I've always found that better SS gear is almost too revealing, has to be some tubes in the mix somewhere. Bring back some soul to the music that some SS gear sucks out.

    Somebody say "Tube buffer".

If it was me I would start there if you can (forget what your setup is now). If you can snag a cheap tube buffer to go between your source and AVR (or AVR and amp) that would be the easiest way to play with tubes and not have a high buy in cost.

I also may know a guy looking to sell a Dared SL-2000a if a tubed pre intrigues you....

Every time I'm out....you guys drag me back in! I'm not getting sucked in to your sick twisted web of deceit! Buy this, buy that, buy this, buy that. Buy these cables, no, no, buy these cables, upgrade your speakers, your avr's too weak, buy an amp, acoustic panels, bass traps, clean the ears with q-tips daily. Actually, I've struck a great deal with nbrowser. He badly wants my Sony VCR (a collector's item soon) in trade for his Parasound. We are just working out the details.

Tubes...yeah I got your tubes. I'm going to install fluorescent tubes in my ceiling and see if that makes a difference!

It's less expensive to just turn down the treble!! I hate each and every one of you ;)

If someone comes over to the house and complains about the harshness, I'm just going to tell them my system is just too high end and revealing! And that's what expensive music is supposed to sound like!!
