You've got to be kidding me, those school officials should be fired on the spot for being morons.

A 6-year-old boy has been suspended from a Colorado school for kissing a girl on the cheek.

School officials in Canon City are accusing Hunter Yelton of sexual harassment and they want it on his school record.

"They sent me to the office, fair and square. I did something wrong and I feel sorry”- Hunter Yelton

The boy's mother tells KRDO-TV her son was suspended once before for kissing the girl and had disciplinary problems, but the girl did not object to being kissed. She told the station that the two children like each other.

"They sent me to the office, fair and square. I did something wrong and I feel sorry," Yelton told the station.

A School District RE-1 official says the repeat offenses meet the school policy definition of sexual harassment and they hope the tough standards will force the boy to change his behavior.

Yelton's mother, Jennifer Saunders, wants sexual harassment removed from his record.

"I'm going to stand up and fight for him because that's not the case, that's not what happened at all," she told the station.

The school district, for its part, disagrees with Yelton's mother's opinion about the boy's behavior and says kissing a girl at school is unacceptable, the station reported.

Sandy Wurtele, a child psychologist, was critical about the district's decision to punish the boy over the kiss.

"I don’t think a 6-year-old would understand what harassment is," Wurtele told KRDO. "That has some longer-term implications."
Political Correctness'.........defined

"A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a t-u-r-d by the clean end."

Kissing is a broad term, a kiss, just a goodbye/hello peck, is fine, necking isnt. It is sexual harrassment if it is" any unwarranted, unsolicited, or otherwise unwelcome behavior of a lewd, erotic, vulgar, or sexual nature. to include, (physical)gestures, and acts, posters and publications, etc and (verbal) requests, namecalling, threats, discussion, etc." in a school or place of business especially, such behavior is completely inappropriate, and should be dealt with accordingly, and with discretion. in public its more difficult to define because unless it it directed at someone, it can be considered freedom of expression. Either way, a kiss used in salutations does not fall under this definition, as its a perfectly appropriate and acceptable greeting.

I don't know anything about this case, but, as a publicly elected school committee member in my erstwhile MA town for seven years, I can tell you a little about school system policy manuals :-) In the context of this thread, I'll tell you one thing - my personal bias is against "zero tolerance" policies: they enable events, such as the current one, that are at least superficially ridiculous. I preferred policies that had at least a little discretion built in to them.

In fairness, sometimes state or federal requirements can tie local hands vis-a-vis policy language... but that's the exception rather than the rule.

This is terrible to say, but I bet if he had kissed another boy, or if the boy was white and had kissed a black girl, no measures would have been taken. I think they would have been scared of the potential repercussions from the public.

Who are these morons, and where do they come from? I can't imagine being born, this absent of common sense, and understanding of how humans interact. How do these idiots remain in their positions?

Get involved with your local politics and everything that entails. I'm doing it, because I don't want my grand kids brought up in a moronic society. Thank God they have good old fashioned parents that instill common sense, responsibility, and integrity in them. They earn what they get, and they all do chores around the house as their "part" of supporting the family.

The lack of these principles is where these dummies come from.

Well said, the "zero tolerance" policy takes away common sense and leadership. But before I pass judgement on this case in particular as a teacher I'm asking if the kissing bandit's actions are part of a continuous pattern of behavior that is distracting other students? If such behaviors are distracting the class (try getting thirty 6 year olds back on task) then it is unfair to the other kids. Some sort of in-school time in the principal's office, say a morning would hopefully solve the issue.

Well, for starters, if we suspended everybody who "may have" done something, we'd have nobody left in any classroom!

An accusation without sufficient proof should never be adequate to do long term damage to someone else's life. The recent Duke lacrosse team's situation comes immediately to mind.

I kissed my first girl in second or third grade during school recess. It was a two second kiss on the lips, no tongue. I think I kissed her two times in all. I thought she was a rainbow. She was my first crush, except for Lindsay Wagner...The Bionic Woman. I had high standards! My second grade kissing partner ended up getting pregnant in the 7th grade. Not by me. Now I can't help but wonder if my actions in the second grade made her go down a more sexual path than most. True story.

Kentucky, you say? Heck, I've known Kentucky girls that are grandmothers by the time they're in the 7th grade! What took her so long?
