any way to clean grill covers?

This pertains only to the Polk 2Bs. As most here know they have fairly heavy front grill covers and 2 side panels with what appears to be the same fabric on them.There is no damage what so ever, no cat cratch fever no snags nothing.They are though 26/27 year old speakers and might just need a freshening up as I did the inards I should not neglect the outsides.The only thing I have so far thought of would be one of those steam cleaners as seen on tv.When I found out that Pledge was the worst cleaners you could use on the MDF fronts and learning Windex is the go to for the surrounds and drivers I do not want to damage or shrink these things so it's wise to ask first. Redoing the tops was a great plus to the cosmetics of these but just dusting might not be enough, or is it.

Lew, tread very carefully. The grills are made of Particle Board or MDF. Any water or Steam applied to the grills, will swell the PB/MDF, especially around the edges. If the cloth is in good shape, with no stains, use a good vacuum, with a brush attachment. Go over every square inch, use the crevis tool in the corners by the trim.

I have use lightly soapy water with a sponge to sponge off the fabric. You must take care like Westmassguy states not to get frame wet. Some of the grills are stapled mine were not IF yours are not stapled I also take the time to staple before the glue lets go. I have found that an air compressor works wonders to blow the dust and dirt off

Thanks to both of you.I'm glad I asked 1st this time. I never thought that steam would really do any harm to the frame it's self.As both of you know it's pretty well an integral part and not just one big open area w/ at least a mid brace and there would be no way to avoid it.Looks like vacuum it is .Thanks for the heads up.I just looked mine are stapled and lots of them....

I use a vacuum first, then a can of compressed air, then vacuum again. For tough stains I use a lightly damped rag with a little Resolve sprayed on it, then finish up with a dry rag.

I've taken to just purchasing new black grill cloth from JoAnne fabric and replacing it. It's easy to do and gets rid of the smoke smell and restores that nice dark appearance. It's like a 5 dollar investment and requires a staple gun and about 30-40 minutes of time.
