I think it's fine to list items in both places with one condition: the eBay-listed items must be listed as Buy It Now only listings, not auction-type listings. Then, once the item is purchased on either end, you can immediately pull the ad from the other site. Had the OP done this in the first place, he wouldn't have had any fees or problems with amazon.

Uh.......that's GREAT advice! Sounds familiar though, like EXACTLY what I posted above in post #22, except the part where you say the OP "wouldn't have had any fees or problems with amazon" when it should have been with eBay.

I've not sold anything on CL. Have reservations about opening my door to a complete stranger who has risked nothing more than dropping by for the opportunity to "kick tires," haggle & tell me I'm asking too much.

as rooftop said, I live in too small of a market to think CL is going to bring anything close to "market value." Witness the 2 sets of 2.3TLs for $500 that a PF member drove from MO to score.

he he, thanks again for posting that CL add

You didn't read my post very closely, did you? You couldn't have "put up a bid" on eBay if the item was listed as a Buy It Now only posting. That way, you either agree to buy it at the posted price or you don't do anything. And to answer your question as to how listing it on CL and eBay is good for anybody but the seller, it would allow the buyer to not pay shipping, not be concerned about the item being damaged in shipping and to likely be able to get the item cheaper since the seller isn't paying eBay's fees.

As the seller of a double-posted item, I'd remove the eBay listing only after I had cash in hand from a local buyer who I would have made aware that it was also listed on eBay. That way, he'd know that at any moment someone could do the Buy It Now option on eBay and that I'd be obligated to honor that sale contract.

The point being, telling buyers/bidders it's double listed. Most don't. Yes, buy it now
fixes that on ebay, but they have a habit of jerking you around on CL stuff when they
have an ebay listing, Buy-it-now or not.And yes, that's why I use CL or search North Texas
ebay listings, since speakers and many amps don't ship well.
UPS has 100's of ways to destroy speakers. Carriers drop stuff off at my house for work all the time.
And they really do some stupid stuff.

Well if you have something listed on Ebay and someone bids on it then you are obligated to keep the Auction open, just like if he wins he is obligated to pay you.
10% fee is not bad considering you get nationwide exposure and the ease of the transaction.

Think how frustrating it is for a potential buyer when an auction is yanked out from under them. They may have missed an opportunity with another auction, because they decided to throw their chips your way. Ebay wants to discourage that type of behavior, so they instituted a fee, which makes sense to me. So, I'm with the auction OR sell it crowd. At least you made an extra $100 to cover the fee!

I get tk's distinction between auction and buy-it-now. Nothing wrong with advertising an item for straight-up sale in multiple places.

    Dabucher,
I read fine print. Looks like Ebay will allow you to cancel an auction with bids and waive the fees once per calender year. So, that means you must have ended at least one other auction early this year. Overall, it is not a practice that I like, but there are times when it is necessary. Just keep that in mind in the future. BTW, the fee equals what the normal final value fee would be.

Any yes, I was just recently frustrated by an auction that was ended early. I was bidding on a very nice Tri-Vista 300 integrated amp. They cancelled the bids, ended the auction and sold it locally. I hope they get hit with final value fees.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I won a bid some time ago for a Mcintosh MC7205 HT amp, and was so excited to have it. I paid for it instantly, and the seller refused to honor the auction, refunded my mony and sold it over on Audiogon for almost a grand more than my winning bid. Needless to say, I was pissed and teh feedback I left reflected it...

Yea he should be banned from selling on Ebay.
I won a nice pioneer pl-518 for $48 +$25 ship and the seller said that it was destroyed by Sandy in the flood and refunded my money. I am still not sure about that one.

I didn't think I was the only one having trouble with these guys. I guess it comes down to either the
seller is ethical, or isn't. It's why buying here in the flea market is so much better all the way around.
