So I pulled the crossover out and you were right. The 5w resistor looks burnt all around it. I took a couple pic's but I have no idea how to upload them onto this forum.
Any suggestions to a resistor to replace it with? Upgraded?
    Cheers…..

That's the one, told ya it would be easy to spot.

Replace them with Mills 12 watt in whatever the ohm value is. They are available from, http://www.soniccraft.com/

    Thanks F1.
So I pulled the other speaker apart and the resister was not even attached on one terminal.
So all the numbers on the resistor is faded off. I think it says (ph)5w3roj or (ph)5w1roj.
I don't know which one. The centre channel is the 1roj but I think the lsi9 is a 3roj.

Any feedback on this one? I don't know what ohm that would make it. The speaker is a 4ohm speaker but I don't know about the resistor.

    Thanks

The resistor value has nothing to do with the nominal impedance of the speaker. Since you are in there, might as well replace all the resistors. It will improve the sound a bit and they are cheap enough.

    Stock values:
    LSi 9 tweeter - 3 ohm/5 watt
    LSi 9 upper driver - 1 ohm/10 watt

    Replace with Mills
    3 ohm/12 watt
    1 ohm/12 watt

    Stock values:
    LSiC tweeter - 1.5 ohm/5 watt
    LSiC left driver - 1 ohm/5 watt

    Replace with Mills
    1.5 ohm/12 watt
    1 ohm/12 watt

They don't burn out crossover boards. There is a 5 watt resistor in the high frequency circuit that in hindsight should have been of higher wattage. It can cook given volume abuse.

Yes, all the ones I've seen have just needed the resistor replaced. Something like a Mills 12 watt will do the trick. Of course, if some bozo is cranking his AVR into clipping causing the 5 watt resistor to cook, the higher wattage resistor will allow the tweeter to fry.

You don't know what resistor to use?

    Thanks F1

I'll take your advice and replace all of them.
I'll try to find those around town today. If not I'll have to order online and have them shipped up.
Now I'm starting to think since I'm in there, I might as well change the caps.

So I finally got the resistors shipped and installed.
They sound 100% better than before. It was the resistors that were blown so I put in the Mills as F1 suggested.

Question for those with a LSIC. Do you notice a different sound coming out of both drivers? I notice that voices and higher end sound come out of the right driver and tweeter, but mostly lower sounds and no voices come out of the left driver.

I compared it with my CSia6 and the a6 throws out the same sound out of both drivers.

Anyone have any experience with this?

    Thanks

Hey Ginn, got your PM, not sire I've noticed this, but I do know some centers have the drivers crossed over differently.

I seem to recall discovering this on other Polk centers, can't remember which. I'll check tonight after dinner. I also have a CS1000 I can check. :p
