John, the Maserati would definitely be a good way to treat yourself for sure.

Have you looked into BMW? An M6 Gran Coupe with 560hp/500tq is an awesome performer with the right amount of luxury and tech.
A 7 series is all right but no M option so it is much more sedate.

Good luck with whatever car you choose.

Yeah, that Model S has tons of space with the front and rear trunks and the the row seats, etc.....but the car is drop dead sexy in person and kicked a Dodge Vipers **** at the track! http://www.autoevolution.com/news/tesla-model-s-world-s-fastest-production-ev-54521.html

I have already had four of them, and got them cheap because of that reputation. Never had to do more than brakes, tires and other routine maintenance to any of them. They deserved the rep a couple decades ago, but that has all changed.

My friend had both a mid 2000's X type and S type, biggest pieces of **** around. Both were money pits and that seemed to be the norm. Transmissions weren't fit to be on a Big Wheel. Fit and finish was poor for a luxury car.

There are a ton on Tesla S driving around Seattle, and they are great looking cars. My next car will be AWD to ensure great traction no matter the weather, and a 2014 Mercedes E63 AMG would be a great choice in your market.

Quite a few Model S's in my small town as well. And agreed, that's a very sharp car. I'm hoping someone at my company picks one up so I can at least ride in one at some point soon. Waaaaay out of my pay grade, but more power to the folks that can afford it.

I know people that had XJ's as well, a whole other battery of problems. Sorry but they do have a rep and it takes an enthusiast to overlook the flaws. I am hoping this generation of Jags is better, I am pulling for them and for them to have some long term success.

That looks really nice but doesn't it look exactly like the new model that starts at 29K

    Doesn't matter because it has a 6.3L V8 and AWD. :)

... but she insists that I buy new ...

Why is she insisting you buy new? Eating the depreciation on a modestly priced new car is bad enough. Eating the depreciation on an expensive luxury car is ... is ... well, it's a really expensive luxury.

The best thing about Maserati's is not that they're super fast, but rather the exhaust note is like sex to your ears. It's pretty much unrivaled.

Know what happens when you drive a $100k+ car? A guy with minimum coverage hits you.
That leaves you about $50k short. I'd never buy a car like that around Dallas.

    Plus taxes and fees ?

Lets say the car is 40 g's. Add tax and down stroke your at 7 g's. 500 bucks a month for 36 months, that's 18 g's more. 25 g's total and the best part.....you don't own it.

When I buy new, I drive it to the dirt. SO depreciation isn't a problem.
Buying new means you know how it's maintained. Buying used means surprises

Not necessarily. You can buy used from someone you know, or buy a certified used from a dealer that includes a bumper to bumper warranty for 3 years. I guarantee you in 3 years you'll know if the vehicle was well maintained or not.

    John,

All depends on if you lease or own. I'm telling you my friend, just the scheduled maintenance on a European car like Maserati/Ferrari, even BMW......thousands of dollars my friend, thousands. Now if your out of warranty and something needs fixing, open that wallet bro and turn your head....don't look....you'll cry.

I suggest you visit some car forums and tune into the brand you want. Get an idea of what it will cost you ongoing. Do the same research you would buying audio gear.

Unless you are buying it cash, the interest rate on a used vehicle makes it no cheaper than buying new.
And a certified dealer vehicle is $$$.

I had a bud in a similar situation. He sold his company bagged 40-50M. He took his 96 Maxima in to the Mercedes shop and picked up a AMG S55. He said it was the fastest car they had at the time. That was a nice ride and quite an upgrade.
