As of next week, I will be working for Paul's TV & Appliances. I look forward to making this move, as I will be working for one of the largest big screen retailers in the U.S. and the position will be less than a mile from my home. The earnings potential is equal to my previous job if not a little better, and not having to worry about a commute is priceless.

The good news is that you guys will now have a man on the inside if you need a new TV. Paul's offers nationwide free shipping in most cases, and of course price matching of competition.

Let me know what I can do to help.

Congrats! I've seen them online, they have a good reputation. And thanks for the offer. I still have to wait for my main set to die, though. That shouldn't take too long as it is an old Toshiba RGB HDTV rear projection set bought years ago when big LCDs cost a fortune, plasmas had longevity issues, and light engine sets had 200-300 dollar bulbs that had to be replaced every two years! Rear projection was your safest long-term cost effective bet. But it's been almost a decade and no upgrade? lol

Good Luck in the new job!

Crank your contrast up to 100 and speed things up ;)

Man, I can't believe your still using one of those. I had two different Tosh CRT rear projectors. The 1st had DVI/HDMI issues, so they replaced it. They were affordable, reliable, and had a relatively good image quality for the time. I said good buy to mine back in 2008 or so. I sold it on Craigslist for about $400. Not sure you'd get half that now that everything else has gotten so much cheaper.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Neat! The fellow who owns that beautiful Marantz 8B I like to trot out photos of :-) works for Paul's TV at the Jordan's Furniture in Natick, MA (I think it's Natick...). He was a top-end installer (maybe the big boss installer man) at Tweeter in MA up 'til their demise.

John, I will be calling you at some point on this .... I need a TV in my office so I can fully utlize the Sunfire TGP I have .

I know its sacrilegious around here to have a TV in a 2 channel room, but there is no better way to play my Sega, SNES, N64, etc than on my 2 channel system

    A slight derail sorry nooshinjohn

I hate to break it to you but not using you car can end up in the long run being more costly than using it every day or two. You should take it for a blast down the freeway at least a couple times a month just to keep things from getting gummed up, blow all the crap out of it and to keep the battery charged.

End of derail and back to wishing nooshinjohn good fortuon in his new job.

    Congratulations John.

Just in time for the busy holiday season. And all the people coming in with their cell phones asking "can you beat this price"? Including you pay the tax?

Their is a Paul's about three blocks from my house in West Los Angeles and they are right across the street from Best Buy. That must make for some interesting conversations.

Congrats on the new job! I had never heard of Paul TV until some years ago when Art Van Furniture stores in MI and now IN partnered with them and have a wing in all their stores.

I wonder how long it will be before projectors are obsolete? After all, a 84" TV is a lot easier to install than a screen + projector + a few hundred feet of cables. Just wait until they weigh next to nothing and are .5" thick and can be put on the wall with ease.
Myself, I would like to have a 100+" screen someday and the space to run it. However, if I ever get a nice looking 84"...the projector may never happen.

Living in the mountains I have to get on a highway to go anywhere, so every time I take it out it sees highway speeds, oil is changed by date rather than miles, and the battery goes on a trickle charge (slowest possible setting) once a month. Also, ethanol stabilizer is added to every tank of gas since pure gas is so rare anymore and I run top end cleaner through it every spring. I do a compression test every spring and all cylinders are within spec and I haven't had any problems out of the ordinary. I like to think I take care of it but if there is anything else I am neglecting, I'm all ears. :)

If you did decide to pick one up, it would drop-ship from the manufacturer or the nearest facility to your home. The billing would come out of the home office in Los Angeles.

nooshinjohn would never buy a boxster,

    Maybe a BMW isetta 300

    or a Borgward Isabella Deluxe

Now there's or theirs a couple sports cars.

All joking aside I actually owned a Borgward in high school (Didn't look anywhere as nice as the one in the video) anyway on a bet I took it to the biggest mall parking lot in the area (Northgate Mall) parked it running with the keys in the ignition and the title signed laying on the dashboard, and to my dismay it was still there 4 hours later. I couldn't give that car away.

heh - I remember when I was a kid, we had family friends who had a Borgward. Given that my uncle, at about the same time, had a Renault Dauphine... I guess the Borgward didn't really seem all that unusual :-)
