There are already plenty of alternatives to the iPhone. I've been following the development of this one for a long time, IMO that swivel camera is an accident waiting to happen.

Why pick on the iPhone? There are alot of other smart phones on the market.

In my opinion, I can't see this lasting on the market very long. There's not much being offered that gives me a big ole stiffy in the pants. One of the major draws of smart phones are the apps and Oppo just doesn't have it.
    No excuses!

Reading about the Oppo they say they have modified Android for it. Android is becoming like Linux with too many variations. This would appear to make it harder for app developers to create and test their apps.

IMO that swivel camera is an accident waiting to happen.
The camera will activate upon rotation, and the 206-degree rotation axis has been stress-tested for 100,000 uses.
International versions of the Oppo N1 will have Color OS by default, but users will be able to flash CyanogenMod from the stock recovery without modifying the system.

Regular Android apps will run on CyanogenMod

    http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Main_Page
    Wiki wrote:
Features supported by CyanogenMod include native theming support, FLAC audio codec support, a large Access Point Name list, an OpenVPN client, an enhanced reboot menu, support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB tethering, CPU overclocking and other performance enhancements, soft buttons and other "tablet tweaks", toggles in the notification pull-down (such as wi-fi, Bluetooth and GPS), app permissions management, as well as other interface enhancements. CyanogenMod does not contain spyware or bloatware. In many cases, CyanogenMod may increase performance and reliability compared with official firmware releases.

CyanogenMod is developed as free and open source software based on the official releases of Android by Google, with added original and third-party code.

So it will support FLAC but I can't find anything about it's DAC. I also wonder if digital out is supported. FLAC > N1 > BDP-105 > Amp could be the end of paying inflated Squeezebox touch prices?

My only disappointment with it is the screen technology.

I wish that it had an O-LED technology screen. brighter and lower power consumption too.

Android is Linux, well, it uses modified Linux kernel, which pretty much makes it another variation of Linux.

Personally, I'd buy that Oppo phone, but I'm also quite happy with an iPhone.

If you already have a 105 then the Touch is already redundant for flac playback, since there are multiple ways to use the 105 to play flac files (directly from a drive, streamed from a NAS, streamed from a MAC or PC, as a zone in JRiver, etc etc), The N1 adds very little to that equation that I can see.

Personally, I don't think battery technology is up to snuff yet to power all the things we want our phones to do. Anyone who cruises the internet on their phone, watches a movie on their phone, knows how much juice that sucks up. Using your phone all day means by the time you get home after work your phone is running on empty....if it hasn't already gone caput. Fast re-charging capabilities need to move forward too.

To me anyway, a phone is a tool. If I don't need that tool it gets put down. Trying to turn a phone into a swiss army knife usually means it won't do any of those things well, but it'll do a lot of them. I don't see where OPPO's phone stands above the rest. Aside from looks, but that's not enough to warrant switching phones in my opinion.

Like it or not, the iPhone is still the standard by which the rest of the industry is judged. Note I didn't say it's the 'best' phone out there, but it is still the standard - other phones are either better or worse than the iPhone.

So from that perspective those comments aren't really that surprising...

That's true it's hard seeing a case that can provide protection to the camera and still allow it to swivel.

And there it is........way to be original with the anti-Apple comment Mikey, because that's NEVER been done before. Unbelievable...

Jeezus, can we not have a thread where an Apple product is mentioned and then NOT get the sarcastic over the top anti-Apple comments? It is un-freaking-believable that this happens in every thread where an Apple product gets a mention...

It's not like they're the only ones doing it either, it's becoming the same story on alot of the Google phones as well (the HTC One and Nexus, two of the flagship Google phones, are the first to come to mind). The point is, if you're going to call out Apple, at least find an issue that's unique to them. Here, I'll get you started: lack of a device with a larger screen...

    Geez...

Strong Bad it's running Android with cyanogenmod which a lot of Android users use. So you'll still have access to the same apps using the Google Play store. I think it will be competitive if it releases before the Galaxy S5 or Iphone6 comes out.

My wife just upgraded to the Iphone 5s and I have the SIII. I definitely don't agree with the people that claim that there are several Android phones are so much better than the Iphone. They both have their advantages. I like how Google apps are better integrated with Android phones. I like Itunes, Airplay, and a small feature but I like that you can change tracks from the lock screen.

But there will always be anti-Apple since it's mainstream.

I threw my Iphone into a wall when it wouldn't stop dinging me to setup my email account which i removed from the phone that no one could seem to fix. Wall always fixes. I've had my droid phone for over a year, and other than set it to airplane mode while on flights has never been turned off or caused me to think about throwing it into a wall. I wish it had a better DAC as I think listening to music on any phone lacks quality. Some people LOVE APPLE... I GET IT! The problem is people using every opportunity they find to take pot shots at Apple, like you did in the thread here. I'm an Apple guy these days, and I don't go into every thread where someone mentions Android and bash it, so why do you Android people feel the need to do it with Apple? Hell, this isn't even an Apple thread and yet you still managed to take a shot.

It's not just an OPINION as you say, it's how it's voiced. Go back and read your post and tell me that's not sneering sarcasm. And then the shot you do take at Apple above doesn't even really apply, since alot of other phones are doing the same thing you criticized Apple for.

    So, to summarize...

You've bitched about Apple in a thread that's not about Apple (and where nobody has even made the claim that Apple is better, or even good for that matter), you've done so in a snarky / sarcastic manner, and then on top of that you've even managed to somehow **** about a limitation that's not even exclusive to Apple so your complaint is basically irrelevant. As I mentioned above I could provide you with a list of things to complain about that are exclusive to the iPhone (even gave you one to get you started) but I'm not gonna make your argument for you, that's just embarrassing. And then to top that all off, you try and play the passive aggressive role where you've just innocently stated an opinion and now we're lashing out at you.

    FAIL

Oh, and before you label me a fanboy you should know that I also run an HTC One and that I've stated on this very forum that I think it's better than the iPhone.

I guess the question is, how long will these phones be "current" in regards to features, and is Oppo really ready to dive into the "we need a new model every 6 months" world that is cell phones.

I suspect not, but then again my girlfriend is happily running an ancient iphone, so maybe Oppo supporters would forgo those upgrades solely b/c of brand loyalty.

I have never participated in any Apple threads on this forum, and frankly do not recall ever making any apple comments, so before you "label" me as a hater and call me names please do not lump me in with everyone else you take issue with.

I didn't label you anything.. Opinions can be snarky, smarmy, indifferent or anything that anyone wants them to be. But one thing opinions are is the entitlement of EVERYONE. You don't have to like it, and you are free to comment and even flambe someone for it. I take no offense for you having your opinion but obviously you do for me to have mine. If you are offended by my opinion, then by all means get some thicker skin, or block me. hell you can even have a negative opinion of me which something you are completely entitled to and it will not hurt my feelings...I promise.

You still haven't really addressed the crux of my post. I never said you'd posted before, was saying that comments like yours get posted in EVERY thread where Apple is mentioned and that I don't understand why - you just happened to be the one who posted in this thread. It just gets old is all...

But yes, you're entitled to your opinion. Fair enough.

I think the following is right, but I may stand to be corrected: Oppo Electronics is Chinese and bought out Oppo Digital, of blu-ray fame out of Mountain View, CA. The Oppo Digital division makes the blu-ray players, and the new headphones and headphone amps (though assembly for all is likely in China). Oppo Electronics makes the high end phones apparently entrenched in China already, now seeking bigger markets. So I just reread this, and it looks clear as mud to me :)
