Cheaper than Granite?

Hey just wondering if there is a slightly cheaper alternative to a granite stand to put under your sub (eg. cinderblock lol). I've looked at these stands and they look good but are just a little out of my price range for now. Is there a different material that does much the same thing?
Thanks for any responses.

Dr. Spec has recommended using air conditioning cement slabs under subs as a cheap alternative.Graham

Concrete pavers have always been recommended as cheap alternatives.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Yep, an 18" x 18" concrete paver at Lowe's for $4 bucks and change. Just spray paint it whatever color you like.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I got my granite slab for $10. Head down to your local Marble & Granite yard and ask if you can look through their scraps. You'll be amazed at what you'll find.

Ok ty for the respsonses. Yeah my dad suggested one of those concrete slabs you put in your garden but I wasn't sure if it would do anything.Head down to your local Marble & Granite yard and ask if you can look through their scraps.

Check your Yellow Pages under Marble and/or Granite, you'll be surprised at how many you find.

Ok I get the idea but why do you want ot do it?
With all the theaters I have setup,I have found the most enjoyable ones have the sub spiked nto the floor so you can feel the sub.the ground transfers the energy to your seating...cool stuff.
I'm going into construction in the basement for my theater and I want to build a sub floor.I want to raise up the floor using 1x4's and quiet floor. This will get my theater off the concrete floor so the concrete doesn't absorb all the sub bass energy.
As far as the Marble under the sub, what differences did you guys get?More pressure?I assume so as I haven't tried this.

My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
Yes vibrating your chair is cool and "enhances the theater experiance" but since out kitchen is under my room I'd rather not vibrate our kitchen. I'd like to minimize the sound and vibrations outside of my room (plus the bathroom adjacent to my room rattles when I turn it up a bit).

I thought of another question...... When I get my hunk of rock, should I put feet on it or just leave it footless?
-
Rubber feet on the sub, none on the granite.

i didnt know there were local granite yards.....my sub is isolated with one of those lamb skin things that babies crawl on and is upside down so the port could still breathe lol. time for some granite
