I think this applicable. I believe the parents actually have a case based on the definition. But common sense is lost...

The problem in your statement is that: you ask for fighting, but you didn't get into the specific. Fighting for what? You might fight for something, and I might fight another battle, it's not the same. Therefore ridiculing others that they are "cowering in a corner" is just an extreme view.
To me, fighting the battle means doing the little things first. If I can't have peace in my household, then how can I expect such in my neighborhood or my country? We get fat from richness, we feel so superior that we ignore the micro and only look at the macro. We want big things, we're #1. If my home is a mess, it won't matter to my country because it's just one home. Well, guess what, if more and more people think like that, we sink together, because it's now the majority. Take care of our home, take care of our neighborhood, only then let's talk about our country, our world. That's my fight.
Your dad might have thought you were a knuckle head. My dad certainly thought so about me. Sometimes I think so about the younger generation, but then I remembered how I promised myself that I wouldn't do so after getting frustrated at being looked at that way by my dad. It's just a generation gap that I want to keep an open heart to embrace it. To claim that only we owned Common Sense while the young guns lost it is just too extreme, in my opinion.
We are not opposite on our views pal. Totally agree, it all starts at home. I think we all agree on that. But what about outside the home ? That's where all your influences as a child start turning things you have worked so hard to curtail as a parent. You hope you have instilled enough character, common sense, moral foundations in your children to carry them the rest of their life. That's the goal as a parent anyway I would think. That's until the education system, the internet, media, and other outside influences take hold that is really geared to turn young minds away from what their parents instilled in them.
Point being, it is no longer enough to just worry about your home. There has to be more done to ensure your children will still be able to have everything you envision them to have. While we agree it all starts at home, there's a reason why most say that. It's the only place you have total control over. Alas....we don't live out our lives in our homes, we must venture out into the world. Trick is, what kind of world do you envision walking out into ? In order to shape that world, like your home, it takes effort, passion, persistence even in the face of adverse reactions. Even your home, the one place you have total control, is at risk these days. All I'm saying is, you can walk threw life with blinders on and wait until your delivered back into servitude, or take the blinders off and speak up. Change of course is inevitable, change for good or bad is what we need to concern ourselves with.HT SYSTEM-

This wasn't the first time McDonalds was involved with a scalding-coffee incident. The jury was presented with hundreds of previous other complaints / suits and chose to do nothing prior to this case. Details....details....Attachment not found.Attachment not found.
Interesting commentary, John. And one that begs the question:
After taking a look at Stella Liebeck (pictured), the 79 year old widow who suffered 3rd degree burns (also pictured), would you enlighten us as to how youd have voted had you been on the jury?
Extra credit:
How would you have reacted if that had been your mother, or wife, in that second set of images? -
True, Kev. The devil is in always the details, evidence of some attached. That's why the views of those who choose to look at the world in only black-and-white and us vs. them are so toxic to a democratic and pluralistic society.
“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”

Hot coffee....yeah well Mc D's should brew it at a certain temp so some liability rests there. I have a feeling however if this person dropped a hot coffee in her lap even brewed at the right temp., a lawsuit would still have been brought. That's the society we foster.
On another note, given the sheer numbers as some suggest about hundreds of other complaints about spilled coffee, would it not be reasonable to suggest that of the millions of cups served, a few hundred from boneheads spilling their coffee is an acceptable number ? Any time you deal with the general public, a certain percentage is going to be dumb as a box of rocks.HT SYSTEM-

How does any one certain news channel fit in to what we are talking about ? I haven't seen you make any attempt to contribute to "objective discussion" or your version of the so called "truth".
I'm pretty sure your intelligent enough to not point the finger of blame for our country's woes on a news channel, I could however be wrong in that regard too, I dunno.HT SYSTEM-

Dudes....relax. All I know is getting all 'rilled up over the political marketing machine in this country gets you nowhere....except pissed off at the world. Really....just think about it. Our 2 political parties thrive under discourse and ideology that rarely reflects reality. It only ensures one or the other will get elected every cycle. The media is also to blame. Fox News and MSNBC thrive when they tell their target demographic what they want to hear - which is rarely news-worthy in the first place. Relax, drink a beer or light one up, and listen to some music. Yeah, music....that sounds good. Say it.......mooooooosic. I like music and I will turn off the TV and just listen to music. Good night America.

I am a video security specialist. Seen way to much fraud, great for my business...bad for insurance and business owners. My best friend is a private investigator for insurance fraud, 98% of his cases are fraudulent, same as my video cases.
Majority of the common working people in our area slip out of the jury system because they are busy, so the jury selection is often tainted by the entitlement group.
There is no right or wrong just the grey area of common sense.
